Building a Batcave!

As you may have guessed by now, I'm getting hooked on making boards for the Batman Minis game.
So far there are 2 cities, an industrial district and a dockyard and asylum to come.
Then Ian Alcock posted this up in the Arkham City Limits Facebook group...........

A Batcave! Yes!
After seeing Ian's picture my mind started to wander off thinking about what I would add to a Batcave board and how I would make it work.
Using Ian's idea as a base, I'll start off with the same materials. Polystyrene, expanding foam, a 3x3 board and some MDF.
I want to end up with a multi level board with walkways, pillars, platforms and a ground floor. Batclaws and flight will be great but I also wan't to make sure all model can get to all areas.

There are a few features I really want to include -
A tall pillar with landing pad for the Batwing.
An armoured door at the side of the board for the panic room.
Some water coming in a few inches from one edge for a couple of Bat Boats.
A large and low level rockpile with large platform on for multiple Batmobiles.
A road leading from the Batmobile parking to a cave at the board edge.
Stairs to Wayne Manor in one corner.
A trophy platform with some of the classics on like a giant T-Rex, playing card and penny.
A Batcomputer platform with Robin's costume in a glass case and maybe another Batsuit as well.
If I can fit it in, I would also love to add an area on the ground floor for the Bat Tank.

The usual street lights and sewers aren't really going to work in this setting.
Instead of street lights, I'm going for some dome shaped lights mounted in the floors.
Instead of sewers, access hatches in the walkways and platforms should do the same job.

I'm going to need to gather together a few things for this though.

 Eaglemoss Batmobiles and Batwing from the Automobilia range.

Heroclix Bat utility belt with case (or two) and a Robin Costume,

 The new Super Computer screens and chair from Multiverse Gaming

WargamesTournaments Necromunda scenery set.
Plus a T-Rex, playing card and giant penny.

After all that I hope Knight Models come out with some more Court of Owls Talons and Batman's Thrasher armour.

So, that's the plan at the moment. What do you think?

Badgers Booty - 22/08/12

Hi all,
Just a quick 'Badgers Booty' tonight as I have a game sitting waiting for me.

What do you think of these?

 The basic game will have humans and Orx, with booster teams, Forgefathers and Veer-myn.

The players will be categorized as "strong brawler," "field player," and "fast player." A player will have four stats.

You'll notice that there is a Goblin MVP rather than an Orx one and that the Veer-myn MVP has no MSRP, the lists I've found don't have it. Supposedly, the minis will be plastic and either one piece or snap-fit, but looking at some of the prices, I'm thinking some will be metal

This week I has mostly been ......... making stuff!

As the title says, I have been on a bit of a building binge recently.
Lots of Supremes and Monsters for Pulp City
Monster (above) are from a range of places including Heroclix. Still 6 more (at least) to add to the collection yet. I LOVE big minis!
Giant Hadron on 80mm base and Libra on 30mm base at the front for scale

An evening of playing with files and glue!
All based on Post Apoc toppers from Fenris Games

A little conversion. I wanted Silveragers robo arms under his  own instead of over to make him look a little different. Doc Ock and Iron spider have both been mentioned as colour schemes.

Another little addition is the extra branches on Father Oak. Gives him more of a 'living tree' look

Not much more to say about them to be honest. Just a quick update on what I have been doing.

Hunting for Heroclix. Help?

After taking a look at the Heroclix Colossals I have decided to give the game a try.
Unfortunately there isn't a Heroclix retailer in my county and the single figures on eBay seem abit pricey.

So I'm calling out the the wonderful world of blogging for some help.

Where can I get Marvel Heroclix at a decent price in the UK?
Where do I even find the rules?
How do you build a team?
And loads of other questions!

Can you help?

Amazing Heroclix Marvel Colossals!

I dont usualy cover , or even follow, Heroclix news. But when I spotted the new Galatic Guardians Colossals I had to find out more!

Above are the new 6 huge figures.
Back - Giganto, Ziran the Tester, Galactus
Front - Dormammu, Uato the Watcher, Sentinel Master Mold

Even if you dont play Heroclix these would look great in any Marvel figure collection or in any game you want a huge enemy.
Grabbing a couple of these myself for the soon to appear Pulp City Monster rules.

How can you say no to Galactus, Destroyer of Worlds or even a mighty Celestial?

Biostrip Review Part 2 - Different Plastics and Resins

After my recent Biostrip review >>HERE<<, I was asked if I could test the product on some other materials over night.
(click any images for a larger view)

I had a bit of a dig around and came up with these.

Top row: Pulp City resin, Black Scorpion resin
Bottom row: Heroclix transparent plastic, standard Heroclix plastic, Privateer Press plastic.

The Heroclix models were painted already. The others were given a heavy black undercoat, foundation layer, colour layer some metallics and a wash.
Once they were dry I covered them in the Biostrip 20 'goop' and left them for 24 hours.
23 longer than recommended but worked very well with the last batch.

24 hours later and it was time to find out how the product worked on these materials.
All models were scrubbed off lightly with an old toothbrush under some warm water.
I will show each separately as there were some very interesting results.

Standard Heroclix

Very little effect on the paintwork. If any at all.
But as you can see in the second picture, the Biostrip has softened the plastic that much that I cant now bend the arms right around.
Not looking good I'm afraid for the Heroclix re-painters out there.

Heroclix Transparent Plastic

There was a slightly different effect on this plastic.
The Biostrip has removed the white highlights from the wings but it has also taken a lot of the blue colouring off of the clear parts. Not softened though.
A little better but still doesn't do the job wanted.

Privateer Press Plastic

A very good result on this one.
All the paint has been removed and no softened plastic. The black undercoat does seem to leave stains but no loss of detail. You wouldn't even notice once undercoated again.

Pulp City Resin

Mixed result for the Pulp resin. The paint has been removed and left only the undercoat stain. Which is fine.
But the surface of the resin has been softened a LOT. Its even 'squishy' to touch.
Not recommended for this type of stripping.

Black Scorpion Resin

 

Hmmm. As you can see, NOT GOOD! The Biostrip has eaten away the resin making it crumble apart when touched.

Conclusion

Biostrip is a good product for stripping metal and plastic minis. Very good in fact.

Using it on Heroclix models doesn't do very much I'm afraid. Still looking for something that works well on those.

Then there;s the important bit. DO NOT use on resin. Not only are resin models softened and damaged by the product, they are not cheap to replace!

Standard plastic and metal (GW, PP etc) 9 out of 10

Heroclix plastic and resin of any sort 0 out of 10

Time to search ebay for some badly painted minis I think!
