Hmmmm......... Its gone quiet................

I know the blog has been a little quieter than usual over the last week or 2, but I though I would pop in quickly and let you all know why.
A small group of us are putting on a Pulp City participation game at the PAW 2012 convention in a couple of weeks. This means there has been a lot to do so everything will be ready.
Mainly it has been painting. Supremes, buildings, portaloos, fountains and more.
Then there is working out exactly what we want to use. Currently we have 4 teams to play about with. Blood Watch, the Coven and 2 of my own creations - the Monsters of Mayhem and the Caped Crusaders.
(more on those last 2 as the minis are finished)

At the same time we have been putting together a couple of battle reports to follow on from the last one - The Lesser of Two Evils.
These are going to become a continuous 'comic book' on the Tales of a Tabletop Skirmisher' blog.
This is where we would love a bit of input from yourselves.
The series needs a name. Any ideas?
How would you like to see the reports laid out? The same as the first or maybe looking more like an actual comic book?

Finally on the Pulp City side of things there have been some BIG projects. Shhhhh...... they are a secret

While all this is going on, Loudo (Andy) has started teaching me Malifaux. The Dreamer and Lord Chompy Bits are sooooo much fun. Hope to have more on that soon as well. Painting, reports etc.

Is it Ant-Man?... Is it Giant-Man?... NO!.. It's CAPTAIN HADRON!!!

As I take a quick break from frantically paint minis and scenery for PAW 2012 in just 19 days I wanted to do a quick post about one of my favourite characters in Pulp City.

Captain Hadron
Hadron is a Lvl 2 Hero Supreme. He is also a key member of the cities most heroic team, Heavy Metal.
With the powers of molecular control, Hadron can shrink down to almost insect size or grow as tall as a tower block. Although he still doesn't have complete mastery of his skills.
At a push he can also control the size and density of allies and enemies alike.

A nice in game factor of this model is 3 different rules cards. 1 for each size.
Not matter what the situation, Hadron will have something that can help.

(Pulp City Studio model)

The standard 32mm scale size model is stunning. Created by the team of Vicente, James Van Schaik and Vesa.
On a 30mm base, he is full of detail and has a very 'different' pose to most other models out there which makes it stand out even more.
But you cant look a Captain Hadron without Mini Hadron and Giant Hadron as well.

Again on a 30mm base, this 10mm scale mini captures the same look, feel and pose of its larger version.
The first 10mm model I have ever tried to build and paint wasn't half as scary as I had imagined. A very clean copy with great detail made the job alot easier than I thought.
Now its time for the big guy.

GIANT HADRON! On an 80mm base, this is one massive and impressive model. Although slightly different pose to the 2 smaller versions he still has just as much attention to detail and captures the character perfectly.

Time for the shot you have been waiting for. (and the main reason I wanted to write this post)
My own copies of all 3 models side by side.

Now you can really see the difference between them. I have based all 3 on the same base toppers from Fenris Games. Well, Giant Hadron has the same topper in the centre of his base anyway.

When I found out about this Supreme I knew there was only going to be 1 colour scheme for me to use. Red, Blue and Silver. Inspired by Marvels Hank Pym. Otherwise known as Ant-Man and Giant-Man.
I will show you how that works out very soon.

Looking back at the start of this post, I mention I have been painting.
Yes I know some of you may be shocked and some may not believe me at all but its true!

Model Review: Relic Orcnar Unmann from Tor Gaming

There are few things as unsettling as the blood curdling battle cries of the Unmann. They are the most common subspecies of the Orcnar and despite their limited capacity to reproduce; they manage to sustain a healthy population.

The Unmann adopt a primal approach to warfare and trust in their claws and teeth to slash and tear away at those who dare venture into their territories. They are a savage and ferocious opponent to face and generally prefer close quarter fighting to all other forms of combat

The physical make up of the Unmann varies vastly from one warrior to the next; some of them will grow to full maturity within a matter of hours of spawning while the more unfortunate mutant throwbacks of the breed will die within the same amount of time. It is this ‘survival of the strongest’ attitude that underlies all values of the Orcnar society.

Despite their perceived low level of intelligence, their enemies need to be cautious not to underestimate them. There are few creatures in the world that can withstand the charge of a hungry Unmann who has caught the smell of blood in his nostrils.

Details: Measuring: ~32mm floor to eye. Models can be assembled into 9 different poses (separate left arms.

Pack contains 3 multipart pewter miniatures. Miniatures require assembly and painting. Painting materials are not included. Not suitable for children under 3 years due to small parts and pointed components 

I had hoped to get this post up a while back but its finally here.
Tor Gaming - Relics review No3. The Orcnar Unmann.
Lets start of by taking a look at what you get in the pack.

Packed in the standard clear blister you get 3 hulking great 30mm based models. Each with a very different pose.
Here are some shot of each individual model

The detail on these models is fantastic. All 3 have VERY different looks to them but at the same time, tie in with each other perfectly.
At this point it was time for the pre build clean up.

The mold line were minimal. As you can see above, they ran up the sides of each mini. On the flat muscle area they were simple to get rid of in a couple of minutes. And the lines over the armour/scales were barely visible. A quick run over with a small file and all were gone.
Next came building. With each only in 2 pieces it was difficult to work out where bits went. :)
The arm joints did take abit of work to fit well though. Even after some filing away there were still gaps.
You do get them on a lot of metal models so it wasn't a huge problem. With a bit of Green Stuff or your putty of choice the joins wont be seen at all.
And how do these models look when built?

Overall, these are some very nice minis. The detail is impressive and the look and feel of these Orcnar troops is so different to the other Relics races and a great take on the hulking brutes in fantasy games.
I would highly recommend these models if the Orcanr take you fancy. You wont regret it. The pictures speak for them selves this time.
Looking forward to getting them painted up.

The final result ...... 7 out of 10

They would have been an 8 if it wasn't for the arms. Anyone that has built a metal mini before shouldn't have any problem at all with that though.

Warmachine and Hordes Previews inc Swamp Horror, ROK + Iron Lich Overseer

There are quite afew blogs out there now that post up all the Privateer new previews.
So instead of a post each time, Im going to gather afew pics up and post them in batches. Picking out my top 3 favourites of the lot.

With that in mind, lets get to it.

My number 1 and absolute favourite of the recent previews....

Minions Blindwater Gators - Swamp Horror Heavy Warbeast
You can see the official shot at the top but here are some from the stunning 360 view aswell.

 Few men have survived an encounter with the swamp horrors that lurk in the marshlands. Survivors speak of great beasts rising from the swamp in a flurry of tentacles and seizing entire hunting parties in their slimy grip. Once ensnared, a swamp horror’s victims can only struggle futilely as they are pulled into its bone-crushing maw. Only the very strongest gatorman bokors and shamans can hope to control these primal beasts, so taming one is viewed as a show of great power.

OK, I might be a little bias here because I'm a huge fan of the Gators and they are my overall favourite force in both games.Such a great variety in models and game play. But you cant deny that this is an AWESOME mini.

The Swamp Horror adds to the very diverse range of models in the Blindwater Congregation but also manages to fit in perfectly at the same time. With an armoured head, gaping jaws full of razor sharp teeth and those killer arms its a force to be reckoned with on the battle field as well as looking incredible and scary.
Cant wait to get my hands on at least 2 of these beasts!

Next up is something very different

Cryx - Iron Lich Overseer

Forged from the consciousness of a trio of venerable iron liches, the overseer exists to command thralls and machines in the field. It slowly turns as the battle unfolds to allow each of its three faces to survey the enemy as it unleashes volleys of soul-claiming arcane fire, all the while hissing commands to the helljacks that follow it to war.

I told you it was going to be different!  Cryx's first Jack Marshall brings a very eerie look to the table.
3 heads so it can watch the entire battle is such a great concept. And PP have manged to pull it off with another brilliant looking mini.
I'm not currently a Cryx player (want Pirates!) but when I finally get started, this guy is a definite!

Last but not least, my number 3-

Trollbloods - RoK Character Heavy Warbeast

When a remote mountain village is found in ruins with its taverns plundered, northerners speak fearfully of the dire troll called Rök. Although insatiable as any dire troll, over a century ago Rök developed a unique craving for beer and liquor of all sorts, and his raids of villages for their intoxicating spirits have since become legendary.

When he was sought out by Borka Kegslayer, Rök engaged the trollkin in an exhausting battle lasting several hours. After this, Kegslayer shared his own potent brew, convincing the ferocious troll they were kindred souls. When Borka left, Rök followed, knowing that greater fights and rivers of beer awaited them.

The Rök heavy warbeast dire troll character upgrade kit comes in a blister (PIP 71062). The Rök character upgrade kit is NOT a complete model. Players will need a Trollblood Blitzer/Bomber/Mauler Dire Troll Heavy Warbeast (PIP 71058) in addition to this kit. A player may field one Rök in a Trollblood army.

Rok is the perfect example of the power and fury the Trollbloods have. I don't think any other model in the range has captured as well as this one. The dynamic pose and roaring jaw almost bring this model to life right in front of you. 10 out of 10 for this one PP!!!!!! Best Trollblood model so far IMO.

Rok isn't just a model on its own though. Its an add-on kit to the new Dire Troll plastic kit. (shown below)

Pulp City - Raccoon, Ninjas and Full Release Wave Minis Shown

Pulp City has shown the full and official pictures for ALL the models in their next release wave today. YAY!
There are some very impressive and stunning models in there as well. (click pics to view larger)
I know I have shown these as each appeared but this is the whole set together.

Starting with Tanuki (above)
A Lvl1 Villain Raccoon. Part of the Jade Cult and a master of potions.
Its such a characterful looking mini. And I love that fact that he is wearing a mask. The one animal that has a natural mask chose to wear another! And the oriental feel has been captured perfectly.


His box partner is going to be the Shadow Mask

Another Lvl1 Villain of the Jade Cult.
But the Shadow Mask has appeared in the background already. Quite far back as well.
His position in the Emperors court is the arch enemy of Chronin from the Heavy Metal team. You can read more about that >>HERE<<
I am a big fan of his 'claws'. Almost like a familiar metal boned mutant. Which makes my own colour scheme very easy to pick. And this is such a dynamic pose. Really gives a sense of action.

The second box for the Jade Cult has 3 models in.
First up - The Green Serpent

A Lvl 2 Villain Supreme.
The daughter of the Green Emperor himself and master of the blade.
Another beautiful models. The sculpt looks perfect and I cant wait to get this one in my own hands.
Instead of another Supreme, the Green Serpent is going to be boxed with some Minions.

The Jade Cult Ninjas (I known I have shown 2 of these before but thought it would be nice to see them all in one place)

Another set of VERY dynamic models. And what is a comic book world without a ninja army?
The sets come with 2 bodies, 4 heads and 4 pairs of weapons. All can be mixed and matched giving you an almost endless amount of combinations.
They will also be sold on the online Pulp City store in packs of 2, without the Green Serpent, so you can field them as part of the Way of the Fist and Blade.

Whats the Way of Fist and Blade you ask?
Well its another new sub-faction with these next releases. And it has also been mentioned that its a way to mix a very unlikely group of Heros in a martial arts alliance. Including Chimp-Chi, Chronin and Sgt Bale


The first mini for The Way of Fist and Blade is Foxxy Blade

A Lvl 1 Supreme (I think) and master of bladed weapons.
A wonderful looking mini that gives a very different look and feel to the others in the range but, at the same time, fits in perfectly with them.

Foxxys box partner is Crimson Oni

A Lvl2 (again, I think) and also Morfs avatar over of the Pulp City Forums
"Bringing the kung-fu violence to the Pulp City streets! When one of the shijin, the Phoenix, had fallen to the Black Beast, Oni was there to pick up its feather before the fire died. He got transformed from a martial artist into a divine fighting machine!"
And that's exactly how he looks. Pure power and technique to deliver justice to any Villains he meets.
There is also the added touch of the 'Phoenix Feather' on the back of his belt.

To finish off the set of releases are 2 more evil beings to fill out the ranks of the Necroplane sub-faction.

Night Fright + Leech

A very different model compared to other Supremes.
Not only is he a Supreme riding a sky-board, the board is also a Supreme.
Night Fright (rider) and Leech (board) are 2 Lvl 1 Supremes in 1 model.
Its a stunning model that looks even better that the artwork in the rulebook. Not only am I looking forward to getting this mini to fill out my Necroplane force, I'm excited to see how the combination is going to work.

You cant have a small fast guy without a big nasty one though. Enter....
Doom Train!

A Lvl2 Necroplane creation that has been haunting the dreams of, Heavy Metals, Iron Train.
Is it a clone? An alternate dimension Iron Train? Maybe a zombie from the future?
Which ever it is, I LOVE IT!!!!!
My favourite models out of this entire set. The look and feel are very creepy. And it fits in perfectly with the rest of the Necroplane faction.

Well, that was alot to take in!
These models should be available to buy very soon.

On a similar topic, well the same game anyway, I'm on a search.
Pulp City have released 6 Ltd Ed minis in the past (that I know of). Reporter June Summers, the Red Baron, Herald, Elder Grimm, Hulking Grimm and Driller Grimm.
I have been called an OCD collector for any ranges I use. I want every model there is.
With Pulp City this has turned out out be every mini they have produced. Whoops :)
I have a Hulking Grimm but I'm still hunting the other 5. This is where you may be able to help.
