Avengers Mansion board
Any long term readers of this blog will know that often I like to grab a load of terrain and see what new boards I can come up with.
As I have the KM Arkham Asylum but I am now in love with the new Marvel game (that I have wanted for years), I thought it would be good to try and combine them.
Using the board and the main 3 buildings of Arkham, I added some other bits including my WIP Avengers statue and a Quinjet to go for an Avengers Manison!
I think its going to need some more bits added for cover and throwing and will be best played from left to right so both teams get a bit of mansion.
So far though I think it's working.
What do you think?
Would you add or remove anything?

Avengers and Guardians Board for Marvel
I have finally had the chance to pick up a couple of bits to finish off my multi use Marvel board.
Some sprays to match the GF9 rocks, more GF9 rocks and some textured paint.
This was a combination of 3 different Army Painter sprays on top of some masonry textured paint. I wanted a darker edge and light middle. Came out quite well I think.
Well, on the second attempt after I was too quick the first time and scratched up one side before it dried.
Everything in place for the Guardians of the Galaxy scenario 'Relics'. Including the Hasbro Milano.
Makes an ideal alien planet or maybe the first Starlord scene from the movie.
A mix up for the Avengers scenario 'Control the Energy Pillars'. Lots to throw, hide behind and zoom around. Maybe a scene from Wakanda or the mines of the Savage Land?
Next up I'm waiting for some Sentinel bits to arrive from the old Marvel Legends action figures.
A head, torso, hand, arm and two feet. These will be replacing the ships for a Genosha or even Limbo setting.
I now most people think of city settings for Superhero games but for this I wanted something different.
I already have around 4 boards in that style. Small buildings, large buildings, industrial and Arkham.
All made for Batman but perfectly usable for Marvel as well.
Thoughts?

New Arkham Asylum Layout Idea
An idea came to me the other day to split up the Arkham Asylum kit from Knight Models and try to make it into a more playable board.
While the original layout looks great it does leave a big open space in the middle of the board and you can't really use the edges.
I grabbed one of my road boards and a selection of the other MDF bits from KM and started to play.
This is what I came up with!
I think it needs a little more scatter terrain for cover and Ping! rolls but it seems to be a fairly playable and balanced board.
What do you think? Would you play on in?
What would you do differently?

Working on Modern Game Boards
Hi all!
I made a mistake. A BIG mistake. In my excitement of building Arkham, I used the back of my city board and didn't realize until it was too late.
This did give me the perfect excuse to work on some new boards though.
Overall I'm planning 5 different boards to use with the Batman game, some with interchangeable scenery, some fixed.
I dug out and old file I had from Fat Dragon Games and got to work.
The first one needed some roads as it's going to be a city block. I wanted to keep and angles there to break up the usual cross board fire and charge lanes and force some interesting movement.
These buildings can be moved or replaced so it makes it a very flexible board that can be used for a lot of settings. Most buildings here are from Sarissa Precision but they could get replaced or stacked higher yet.
Next up, again using the Fat Dragon tile was an Industrial District.
I want for a single road this time going around one corners. I know that opens up cross board lanes but on this one they will be blocked with more scatter terrain.
The buildings are also interchangeable on this one so new bits can be added to swapped with the city block. The TTCombat Bank will probably head to the city while the Impudent Mortal bits need to stay on a higher board like this one.
Talking of swapping things around, there will be some new additions to these boards soon.
TTCombat have a new gothic warehouse and courthouse that would be a great fit. The Olympus building from Multiverse Gaming is also a good size and very well detailed. I hope we get to see some of the city buildings Knight Models had at a show a while back as well.
The industrial district will be getting some love from Wargame Model Mods. A Hydro plant with a moving generator and lights, a tech building with lights and some silos to go with the chem plant.
Board #3 will be a dockside board.
My friend Jack sent me a printable board (below) that fits the setting really well and it will be filled with Wolsung warehouses and walkways along with a big crane from Fenris Games and a water section for the Bat-Boat!
A couple of the above buildings might also fit as well as a Lincoln building from TTComabt and a great Warehouse from Multiverse Gaming (neither pictured)
Board 4 is something you have seen a lot of on here already. Arkham Asylum with a base created 'just' for that set.
Work continues on this and it should hopefully be finished soon.
Finally is board 5. The Batcave!
The picture below belongs to Ian Alcock but it's a good representation of the sort of thing I'm going for though.
There are things in the works for this one but I don't know how far off it will be at the moment.
What boards are you working on at the moment?
Do you think this will be enough for any setting I might need?
If not, what would you add / remove?
Until next time.....

Building a Dockside Board - Planning Stage
Recently I decided I was going to build a second board for the Batman Minis Game to go with my City Board (that still isn't finished).
As something that is often seen and mentioned in stories from Gotham , I thought a dockside would be a good addition.
The basic board will be 3'x3' with a section of water at an angle of 45 degrees on one corner that contains at least one jetty / pier.
Why not straight down one side? Well, angled water means all of the buildings and such can be at an angle as well. This breaks up the usual fire and charge lanes you find in a lot of games.
The PERFECT Warehouses for the dock are made by Micro Arts Studio. These are a fair size and the walls, doors and windows can be removed. They even have interior levels to play on.
To start with, two of these will be added to the dock.
To go with the warehouses, Micro Arts also do small blocks of flats or offices. Again, any windows and doors can be removed and there is a playable interior. One of the most appealing bits on this one is the fire escape. Great to Batclaw up to or leap off of.
I'm going to start with one of these, but depending on the space a second may be added.
To add some more interesting levels to the board and to make the jetty, I'm going to grab a couple of the Walkway sets from the same range. These are modular so can be built around, between or even over other items on the board.
What is a dock without a crane? This beauty called 'Ichabod' is from Fenris Games. This massive and detailed piece will make a great centrepiece and really add to the dock look.
So far this could be any old dock. Until you added a tons of shipping containers, crates and boxes from Wayne Enterprises and Queen Industries. With these goodies from Knight Models it couldn't be mistaken for anywhere else.
The addition of some dumpsters and phone booths with 'Gotham' written across them will further cement the location.
Any why did I want to do a dockside in the first place? Well........
I just picked up these awesome Batboats from the Batman Automobilia range. Forever is one of my favourite movies so that one was a 'must have' and I couldn't leave out good old Adam West after growing up watching the old series.
What do you think of these plans?
Is there anything I'm missing so far?

City Gaming Board WIP Update - Dec 15th
As you may know already, I am buliding a modular City gaming board for the Batman Minis Game from Knight Models.
I have now added a few more items, laid down at least a base coat on everything and created two different areas of Gotham City. All that really needs doing now are a few washes, some dry brushing and a bit of detailing. Then it will all be ready to go.
First up is Gotham Downtown.
Several buildings. 2/3/4 levels to each and things tightly packed together.
Click any pictures to view larger.
Miniatures are from Knight Models
Shipping containers, street lights, sewers, boxes, bins, skips and pallet are from Knight Models
L-shaped Pub is from Timeline Miniatures
All other buildings are from Sarissa Precision
Batmobile and Batwing are from Eaglemoss
Base toppers and street level scenery are from Fenris Games
Rooftop scenery is from Ainsty Castings and Armorcast
For the second layout I am going for the outskirts of Arkham.
Fewer buildings and floors. Larger consruction areas. More floor level space.
What do you think?
Would you add / remove anything?
