Working on Modern Game Boards

Hi all!
I made a mistake. A BIG mistake. In my excitement of building Arkham, I used the back of my city board and didn't realize until it was too late.

This did give me the perfect excuse to work on some new boards though.
Overall I'm planning 5 different boards to use with the Batman game, some with interchangeable scenery, some fixed.

I dug out and old file I had from Fat Dragon Games and got to work.

The first one needed some roads as it's going to be a city block. I wanted to keep and angles there to break up the usual cross board fire and charge lanes and force some interesting movement.
These buildings can be moved or replaced so it makes it a very flexible board that can be used for a lot of settings. Most buildings here are from Sarissa Precision but they could get replaced or stacked higher yet.

Next up, again using the Fat Dragon tile was an Industrial District.
I want for a single road this time going around one corners. I know that opens up cross board lanes but on this one they will be blocked with more scatter terrain.
The buildings are also interchangeable on this one so new bits can be added to swapped with the city block. The TTCombat Bank will probably head to the city while the Impudent Mortal bits need to stay on a higher board like this one.

Talking of swapping things around, there will be some new additions to these boards soon.
TTCombat have a new gothic warehouse and courthouse that would be a great fit. The Olympus building from Multiverse Gaming is also a good size and very well detailed. I hope we get to see some of the city buildings Knight Models had at a show a while back as well.
The industrial district will be getting some love from Wargame Model Mods. A Hydro plant with a moving generator and lights, a tech building with lights and some silos to go with the chem plant.

Board #3 will be a dockside board.
My friend Jack sent me a printable board (below) that fits the setting really well and it will be filled with Wolsung warehouses and walkways along with a big crane from Fenris Games and a water section for the Bat-Boat!
A couple of the above buildings might also fit as well as a Lincoln building from TTComabt and a great Warehouse from Multiverse Gaming (neither pictured)

Board 4 is something you have seen a lot of on here already. Arkham Asylum with a base created 'just' for that set.
Work continues on this and it should hopefully be finished soon.

Finally is board 5. The Batcave!
The picture below belongs to Ian Alcock but it's a good representation of the sort of thing I'm going for though.
There are things in the works for this one but I don't know how far off it will be at the moment.

Review: Secret Weapon Urban Street Bases

For the third in my small series of Secret Weapon base reviews I will be looking at the-

Urban Street Range

These bases feature cracked cement, tarmac and a minimum of rubble to allow you to face your model in multiple directions allowing for some variation in your army.

When I opened the parcel I found these very professional looking packets. A lot of base companies send things in just clear bags, but Secret Weapon go that little further with retail ready packs. On the left is the 30mm set and the right is the 40mm set. Both very easy to see exactly what you are getting.

Here you can see the 30mm round lipped base set. Painted picture at the top of the post.
They are single piece resin casts with a large amount of detail. The base sides are perfectly formed with no lumps or bumps to deal with.
The bottoms of the bases are level which is always a good thing as you don't want to be filing resin if you can help it. Around the edge on a couple is a very thin overlap of resin. This can be taken off with your finger or a hobby knife if you want to be more precise.

The 30mm Urban Streets are perfect for any modern or city based game. Several of them have pavement (sidewalk) curbs to give a slightly different height level. The tarmac (asphalt?) is cracked and damaged and gives a 'used' look to them.
With each base being different and none of them being symmetrical, you can face models in any direction. This means you can use several packs in the same collection and have each model stand out as an individual.

Price - This pack of 10 bases can be picked up from the Secret Weapon store for $10. That is around £6.60. A great price in my opinion for such high quality products.

Here is the 40mm set. 5 different bases in the pack.

The 40mm set are the same high standard as the 30s. Nice smooth sides and only a little flash around the bottoms, which again are perfectly level.
With a bigger base you can include a lot more detail.
They have the same cracked tarmac and curbs as the smaller bases but also include a small section of brickwork and some crushed and damaged bricks scattered around. The curbs cover a larger area on a couple, these could even be lined up with a pair of minis for a diorama look.
Non symmetrical detail again gives you the option to face models in different directions for different looks.
These seem a little higher with the details so your medium sized minis will stand out a bit more.

Price - For the set of 5 bases you can get them at the Secret Weapon store for $10 (£6.60)
Not 'quite' as good a deal as the 30mm set but still darn close. A great price for the detail and standard.

Overall - I really like this range. The will be a perfect fit for Pulp City models (which is what I will be using them on) or any other modern era ranges like 7TV or Super System.
The only thing I would consider changing would be the make some of the cracks smaller or even remove them in places.

8 out of 10 Badger Points.
Less cracks and 1 or 2 more designs would have been a 10.

Exclusive - Sarissa Precision New 28mm CityBlock Warehouse

The guys over at Sarissa Precision have given me the great opportunity to post an exclusive first look at their newest and largest product. The....

New 28mm CityBlock Warehouse

I already have the rest of the CityBlock range as you may have seen in earlier posts and love them. The best scenery I have ever owned.
So when Sarissa Precision gave me the chance to get my hands on the new Warehouse early I jumped at the chance!

Lets start off with a look at what you get in the kit. (Again with 30mm mini for scale)

Its alot of parts compared to the standard CityBlock buildings, but theres so much more detail on this one.
The brickwork and windows are the same high quality as the others but this one has more steps, stairs and new additions like a loading bay, loading doors and internal office floors with supports.

The instructions that come with the kit are very easy to follow and walk you through it section by section with pictures which is a great help. After some sticking and building this afternoon I have finished up with this...

As well as four loose wooden crates (which will be perfect to throw about in Pulp City) the rear doors have stands on the back so they can be left open or closed.

You may be able to tell for the above picture, the roof is removable.
The other end of the interior shows 2 floors of offices. With the top one being removable.

This is a perfect piece for any game based from 1900 to near future. Especially games like Pulp City. It could even be a Guild Warehouse in Malifaux, an Infinity hideout or a Warmachine Cygnar storage facility.
You can paint these kits and I am going to try with a extra bit that came with one of the other buildings to see what it looks like. (I will post my results up here when I do it)
But I really like to sandstone style look to these buildings as they are. So thats how my modern city is going to stay.
I am working on some more bits for my city at the moment but I will soon show the entire setup with the Warehouse at center stage.

Sarissa Precision should have this kit up on thier site very soon for the great price of £50 with free P+P.
Aswell as the CityBlock range they also do 25mm Old West, Heroic Old West (Perfect for Malifaux), 15mm WW2 and 28mm WW2.
They also do a whole range of tokens and movement trays.
I highly recommend Sarissa. They have been great to deal with and produce some amazing scenery pieces.
Go and check them out. there WILL be something you like.
