Is the Marvel Universe Game Dead?

Is the Marvel game from Knight Models dead?
The question on many players lips at the moment. Especially those in the MUMG Facebook Group.

So, why do people think the game is done?

- The last official Marvel mini release was the Dark Avengers back in August.
- There were the Spider-man free download cards at the end of the year, but they have only been posted on here and still not on KMs site.
- KM have posted promo material for the Justice League movie, Lego Batman movie, Harry Potter and more. But nothing in several months about Marvel or any movies / series including the hit Dr.Strange.
- People started to ask on KMs Facebook page about Marvel and many of those comments were deleted. The other didn't get a reply.
- Fans then started to email KM directly. But responses have been very vague about Marvel and instead stated the game will continue with DC releases.

I worked on this game daily from at least 6 months before release up until 2 months ago. I can't even get a reply from KM.

Yes, the SuperHero Universe game is continuing with DC releases, but where does that leave those of us that are Marvel fans?
Those that have wanted a Marvel minis game for years, jumped right in when it stared and are now left in the dark?

You could argue "play DC instead". But if Star Wars X-Wing suddenly stopped and you told people to "play Star Trek instead" there would be absolute geek RIOTS!!!!!!!!

Gamers and comic /movie fans are some of the most passionate there are about their hobbies. Put them together in a licensed minis game and you get some of THE most dedicated fans you could ever find.
When they hear news and see releases monthly and then get radio silence for six months, they are going to worry.

What are your thoughts on this situation?
Have you heard anything on the topic?

I'll update when more is heard.

Update 1 - KM have emailed a customer saying they will not be re-releasing the Loki and Venom models as the molds are too old.
Very odd after the official cards for those models, with models pictured, are on the KM website at the moment (on this blog a few posts back HERE)

Update 2 - Reports from a store that KM called them and told them Marvel is getting axed in favour of DC and Harry Potter. To be announced officialy next week and the Marvel side will get no more releases.

Update 3 8/2 - A very large and very reliable retailer has contacted me stating the same. KM no longer have the Marvel license.
I think all we are waiting for now is the official announcement from KM.

  1. too bad that was the reason why I bought some KM models... if they stop doing MARVEL, I guess I'll have to play another game...

    1. I'll keep playing, but I'm also now looking at Malifaux

  2. Im pretty livid tbh.
Got into Batman MG early last year but found it a bit too clunky and time consuming, and the fact that heroes seemed a poor choice was odd.
We kept looking at marvel as there were some cool characters, but were not convinced as it didnt quite have the breadth of range yet, when they released the DC update we assumed that was a good sign for the health of the game and jumped in. Now im looking at all my half painted Brotherhood minis on the shelf that have seen action in just TWO games so far and wishing id not bothered.
Sure, we can still play with what we've got or carry on buying DC, but this leaves such a bad taste in the mouth. I'm MUCH more inclined to sell up all of my Knight models and move on to a game system where the company treats its customers with a bit more respect.

    1. Don't sell them. You can still play.

    2. sure, we can still play, but the marvel factions are quite limited.
And the bad taste this whole scenario has left in the mouth makes it quite difficult for me to maintain the enthusiasm.
Knight MUST have known this was on the cards for some time now. If theyd been a bit more up front about it i couldve dodged the 'dead' marvel game and maybe just invested in the DC side. Who knows.

    4. You can't blame KM. These are licensed products. They licensing talks fall apart or Disney wants too much money to renew and it falls apart. Then they have to do whatever it says in the license agreement. In this case it looks like they had to stop selling them immediately. Couldn't even liquidate remaining stock it seems. The system is pretty good and they are releasing cards for the Batman TMG models to be used in DCU. Just don't blame KM because I am pretty sure it isn't their fault. They seem to be in bed with Warner Brothers now so let's see what the future brings.

  3. Same here... A friend warned me with the Batman game and its mishaps, think about the ones who bought the Spiderman game (non-existent game?) then starting a MARVEL game where some factions never even made it to the board... Now they do DC (why even bother, they could have included them in the batman game...) ... The funny bit in that is cutting the MARVEL to start a Harry Potter that will see 2 or 3 release, and then start another game ...

Plus I remember them talking about future release (a miles morales spiderman, etc...) and then nothing ...

Let's see if it's a rumour, maybe it's all whispers in the wind. But of MARVEL really stops, so will my trust toward KM...

    1. Far too many retailers confirming it now. Spidey should have been a sign.

  4. definitely a big blow to their growth in the US. If a major company (FFG?) gets the Marvel Minis license then an even larger hit to KM.
I can't really find any empathy for them though...the US fanbase have been asking /begging for more support for a year without much success.

    1. I'd like someone to pick it up so I can keep getting new Marvel toys.

  5. It doesn't make sense to me since the game was just picking up steam. I understand the shift to bring in DC comics folks and the batman game user base. I think this rumor is baseless and only founded on 6 months no new release. You have to remember though that we did get a lot of cards for existing models in that time span. I think that shows that the game is far from dead. I would expect some evil galactic models released next. For Dr. Strange, I would expect some delays after the movie release, just like Trinity and batman vs Supah.
Keep calm and print your new cards :)

    1. I don't think it's going to happen. Had a big retailer contact me today saying they have had the same news direct from KM.

    2. Wow... really? Are we going to get refunded then or something?
and I was just starting to have fun with these...

    3. I doubt it. There will be more DC but just no more Marvel.

    4. Haha. I'm not going DC either.

  6. Could it be something like both Marvel & DC got pissed off to be together in a game (you know how competitive they can be) and somehow, bringing DC in the game killed the whole thing (MARVEL could have given conditions so drastic that KM preferef to stop the project straight)?

    1. Could be anything like that. Or countless other reasons.
Doubt we will ever know for sure.
