Tabletop Art - Wall Template and Crystal Field Base

For the third in my series of Tabletop Art reviews I will be looking at 2 smaller items in the same post.
First up is the Wall Template and then it will be the Crystal field 50mm bases.

Wall Template

The Wall Template is a 3D gaming accessory but can also be used as terrain.
It comes in a large blister pack with a painted version shown on the front.

The Wall is a resin single piece accessory that is perfect for games of WarmaHordes. (Gortens spells anyone?) It can also be used as a broken wall on almost any battlefield. The fact that its multi purpose makes it appealing already.
Above and below you can see the 'Doctor' to show the size and scale. He is a 28mm mini on a 30mm base.

The template/scenery piece is VERY highly detailed. Random brickwork with a variety of textures, vines, broken stone and more.
It didn't need any work on it at all so could be undercoated straight from the box. Another great point.
The low profile base also means that it blends into the surrounding game board easily.

Price - e6.00 or roughly £4 from the Tabletop Art Store. How can you say no to that for a decent sized resin piece of terrain / gaming accessory?
Overall - I really like this piece. It has several uses, can be painted without ANY work straight from the box, very nice detail and all at an awesome price.
The Wall Template doesn't exactly what you want it to do. And more!

Crystal Field 50mm Base

The Crystal Field base comes in a large blister with a painted version shown on the front. The back shows any other information you may need.

These bases are a very highly detailed 3D Crystal design. On one side the crystals are small, growing larger as you go across the base. Because the detail is not symmetrical it means you could use the same base several times and each model will still look different.
On the sides of the base there are 180 degree arc markings so they would be perfect for WarmaHordes.

I didn't do ANY work on this base when I took it out of the box. No flash, no mould lines, nothing! Perfect from the start. You cant ask for any better than that.
I do have to admit though, I wont be using this as a base. Instead I an going to flock the smooth sides and paint is up and an area of 'Sun Crystals' to use on my Deep Wars board. The detail is so nice, i would feel bad hiding it under a miniature!

Price - The base is e4.50 or £3 on the Tabletop Art store. For a resin base of that size, detail and quality, that is a bargain! I'm going to get a couple more!
Overall - Very very impressed. I love it. I don't have a bad word to say about the piece and cant keep going on about how good it is.

Tabletop Art - 28mm Gabion Scenery

A gabion (from Italian gabbione meaning "big cage"; from Italian gabbia and Latin cavea meaning "cage") is a cage, cylinder, or box filled with rocks, concrete, or sometimes sand and soil for use in civil engineering, road building, and military applications. In a military context, earth- or sand-filled gabions are used to protect artillery crews from enemy fire.

When Tabletop Art told me to see what I liked on thier website, something caught my eye for Dystopian Legions games. Gabion scenery.
I instantly imagined a section of Britannian Linesmen forming up behind a Gabion wall while the artillery is placed into position.
Below I will take a closer look at a couple of items from the range.

Gabion Gun Emplacement - 28mm Scale

The Gabion Emplacement comes in a quite large box. But it fills it! The front has several painted pics from several angles so you know exactly what it looks like.
The Emplacement was also totally wrapped in bubble wrap so there could be no damage at all.

I will show the 'Doctor' next to these pieces so you get an idea of size. He is a 28mm model on a 30mm base.
The thing that suprised me with this is the fact that it was all in one piece already! No building or anything which is unsuual for such a large resin terrain piece.
The detail is fantastic! Covered in different textures all over from broken wood planks to dirt and stone piles.
I honestly couldnt find a single fault with it either. No mould lines, bubbles, vents or anything similar that needed cleaning up.

A birds eye view lets you see how big the Emplacement really is. Not only is it wide at the front, its almost twice as long. The planking gives you more than enough space for an artillery piece and crew to fire it.
The rough ground texture and the very low profile edges mean that it will blend into almost any board seemlessly.
I dont think I can get across just how great this looks!

Price - In the Tabletop Art Store it is an entire E9.50 or roughly £7.50.
For a highly detailed resin terrain piece of that size that doesnt need any work you just cant go wrong with £7.50!
Overall - If you can't tell, I love it! The quality is superb and the price is even better!

Next we have the second item in the range-

Gabion Rampart - 28mm scale

The Gabion Rampart comes in a larger blister style pack. The front shows the Rampart from the front and back painted.

When removed fromt he pack I seen this was also a single part terrain piece. The Doc again shows the scale.
Even though it is more of an obstruction than a useable scenery piece, it is still quite large.
Again there is NO clean up needed. No mould lines, bubbles or any imperfections.

The Rampart is very highly detailed. The Gabion wood shows several different depths and it even has 2 Gabions broken open spilling the contents. The mix of textures should make it a great piece to paint up using different techniques. The ground is low profile and generic to fit in with almost any gaming table out there.
I just cant fault it at all.

Price - The Tabletop Art store lists the Rampart as E7.50 or roughly £6.
Althought it isnt 'quite' as good a deal as the Emplacement, it is still a wonderful price for a resin terrain piece or that quality and size.
Overall - Very impressed with the Rampart. It looks amazing and takes no effort to fix up.

Tabletop Art - Crystal Tech Energetic Vault

Recently I had contact (using the Contact Hendybadger link to the right) from the guys at Tabletop Art suggesting I check out their website. They thought I would like some of the scenery and bases they make. They were right!
When they then said to pick some things I like the look of to review on the site I was spoilt for choice!
One thing stood out above all the other goodies though.

Crystal Tech - Energetic Vault

Looking at this awesome scenery piece in the above pictures it would be a PERFECT objective for a Necron force or to build a Tomb World around. As I don't collect 40K, I had a different idea. 
With crystal powered ancient tech being a big thing in Deep Wars, if this was textured a little and painted up in stone it would make a great underwater energy source!

The Vault comes in a sturdy card box with a full colour photo of 2 different views on the front. No mistaking what you are going to get.

When you open the box you find these pieces above. A base, crystal column, 4 supports and a top. All are in resin.

The top and bottom are flat and blank underneath. They didn't need any cleaning up at all as they were perfectly cast. The supports have a little extra resin on the bottom that needed clipping off but as that is where they glue in there is not need to clean it up any more than that.

30mm base for scale

The supports also had a slight mould line running around the thin edges that will need cutting back a little with a hobby knife if you want a perfectly smooth surface for a Necron piece. But as I wanted it rougher anyway, this wasn't really a problem.
The crystal column had a litte flash (thin extra resin) around the ends but that came off just by running my finger over it. As a thin resin piece it wasn't totally straight. when dry fitting the piece I found I had to heat the centre of the crystal a little to bend it straight. I was only a couple of mm though. Nothing major.
There parts didn't have any bubbles or miscasts that you often find with resin which was a great thing.

Onto the building!

The Vault went together perfectly once I have bent the crystals a little. The supports fit snug into the base and the top just rests on them. I did glue it on though so it didn't fall off and get damaged.

As you can see by the good Doctor (28mm mini, 30mm base) beside it, the Energetic Vault is a BIG piece of scenery. With thin supports and a flat top it means it is also a piece of scenery you can play 'on' or 'in' instead of just around.
Personally I will probably cut off the cables on the bottom and give it a VERY light coat of texture for a worn granite or marble effect. It will have been under the sea for 100s of years so isn't going to look perfect!

Price - The Vault comes in at roughly £14 from Tabletop Art. I doubt you will find a detailed piece of resin scenery the same size anywhere else for that price. I was honestly surprised when I looked at how much it was. I expected around £30 minimum.
You can also find an entire range of Crystal Tech scenery and bases to go with it.

Overall - The Energetic Vault is very different from a lot of scenery you see on the market. It would be at home on a Necron board, as ancient tech or even in a mad scientists lab.
With the size, quality, detail and price I am seriously impressed. It is actually as good as it looks!

If the supports needed less cleaning and the crystal didn't need bending it would have been 10! I really do like it that much!
