New Batman / Suicide Squad Buildings

Knight Models have posted up a closer look at the terrain coming in the Suicide Squad boxed set for the Batman Miniatire Game.

Not only is it printed and cut card with DC / Gotham themed decoration, it is also reversible and stackable!

There is no news yet on if these will be available separately, but from the instant demand online I expect they will be very soon.

What do you think of these sets?
Will you find a good use for them?

Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters?

Following on from my Avengers Mansion, I thought that Arkham would also make a decent Xavier's School for Gifted Younsters.

Using the same parts of Arkham, I have set them out in a wider layout to give the impression of a large school instead of a single building.
The statues in the middle are just filler until I can find a decent fountain to place there and as it's the home of the X-Men, it will always get attacked. Hence the wrecked Sentinel parts outside.
Again, it needs something more. But I'm not sure what at the moment.

Thoughts?

Avengers Mansion board

Any long term readers of this blog will know that often I like to grab a load of terrain and see what new boards I can come up with.
As I have the KM Arkham Asylum but I am now in love with the new Marvel game (that I have wanted for years), I thought it would be good to try and combine them.

Using the board and the main 3 buildings of Arkham, I added some other bits including my WIP Avengers statue and a Quinjet to go for an Avengers Manison!

I think its going to need some more bits added for cover and throwing and will be best played from left to right so both teams get a bit of mansion.
So far though I think it's working.

What do you think?
Would you add or remove anything?

X-men Tearing up a Sentinel in Genosha!

A while back a fried (Ross) said h had seen some Sentinel parts on ebay that might make good terrain for X-men games.
I looked them up and they were Build a Figure parts from Marvel Legends action figures. But then something else caught my eye. Broken Sentinels that were bases / stands for earlier Legends figures.

I raided ebay and ML groups on Facebook and tracked down a load.

The first one of arrive was the foot. While it may look huge, my favourite X-Men era was the 90s (like the picture at the top) and the Sentinels back then were huge.

Out of all the parts, the right hands is probably the largest and most inpressive. I had to pull the wall stand off the back to make it sit flat, but its rally good for playing on, over and giving cover.

The head seems perfect for 90s Sentnels. On the Onsalught covers above, Rouge is about the same size as a faceplate. Can just seem Colossus throwing this at the Brotherhood!

The final couple of parts were smaller but work as good filler terrain. The Torso is over normal head height so blocks LoS nicely. The left had is covered in ice so I will probably repaint that to look like rocks to match the rest.

A full body worth of parts take up a decent amount of a 3x3 board.

Adding these to my usual 'to hand' terrain gives a nice Genosha board that plays really well.

I may have gone a little OTT though as there are about 5 more parts on the way for a full Sentnel graveyard. Pics of that when they arrive.

What do you think of them?
What will you be using to theme your X-men boards?

Avengers Statues? Good plan!

Hey there,
Now Knight Models are re-releasing the older Marvel figures with rules for the new game, I am left with a few doubles including the 4 core members of the Avengers.

While I considered some alt colour schemes, I placed the models on the side and came up with a nw idea.
Avengers Mansion in the comics is often shown with statues of the most popular (and dead) team members.

After a few different lay outs, I have settled on the group above.
These will all bronzed and be rebased on some sort of large plinth but with pins instead of being glued.
This means they can be taken off one statue at a time and used to throw at enemies in game.

More on this when I find a decent stand for them. Any ideas?

What do you do with older versions of model that get released again?

Avengers and Guardians Board for Marvel

I have finally had the chance to pick up a couple of bits to finish off my multi use Marvel board.
Some sprays to match the GF9 rocks, more GF9 rocks and some textured paint.

This was a combination of 3 different Army Painter sprays on top of some masonry textured paint. I wanted a darker edge and light middle. Came out quite well I think.
Well, on the second attempt after I was too quick the first time and scratched up one side before it dried.

Everything in place for the Guardians of the Galaxy scenario 'Relics'. Including the Hasbro Milano.
Makes an ideal alien planet or maybe the first Starlord scene from the movie.

A mix up for the Avengers scenario 'Control the Energy Pillars'. Lots to throw, hide behind and zoom around. Maybe a scene from Wakanda or the mines of the Savage Land?

Next up I'm waiting for some Sentinel bits to arrive from the old Marvel Legends action figures.
A head, torso, hand, arm and two feet. These will be replacing the ships for a Genosha or even Limbo setting.

I now most people think of city settings for Superhero games but for this I wanted something different.
I already have around 4 boards in that style. Small buildings, large buildings, industrial and Arkham.
All made for Batman but perfectly usable for Marvel as well.

Thoughts?

Avengers Downtown Board for Marvel Universe

I openly admit to being a scenery hoarder. I have piles of boards, buildings, rocks hills and all sorts.
Not that I said 'hoarder' and not 'builder'.
While I was at work over the last week, my wife took matters into her own hands.

Over a few days she dug through the piles of unbuilt boxes and put together her own Avengers Downtown board.
To start off with there a mixture of Secret Weapon Tablescapes tiles from the Urban clean and damaged sets.
Then on those are the Mohawk Tower and Olympus Building (front two above) from Multiverse Gaming and the Hospital and Bank from TT Combat.

To really make it Avengers themed, I picked up an Age of Ultron Quinjet for her. It's from a 2" figure set by Hasbro and has a Captain America on motorbike that shoots out the bottom which was rapidly stolen by our 4 year old.
With Ironman on top and Hulk in front, I think it looks a pretty good scale.
The 'bits' box was then raided for cars, containers, portaloos, hydrants and more.

The next step is paint obviously but I think we are going to have to get a few games in first.

What do you think of this set up?
What would you add or remove?

Starting a Guardians of the Galaxy Board

With the Marvel Universe Mini Game coming any day now, I thought I would start on a couple of new boards.
The first was planned to be 'loosely' based on the plant from the start of Guardians of the Galaxy.
Using some old Gale Force 9 hills, rocks and crystals I started to throw things together.

While it isn't a very high and multi level board, the Marvel game has a lot of movement like flyers and teleporters and relies less on cover than the Batman game so it should be fine. One of the main factors was to have things to throw around. I thought the small rocks and crystals would be ideal for that.

Drew on the Marvel Facebook Group dug out his Hasbro Milano and I remembered that I had one as well from my wife a while ago. It obviously ended up buried in the 4 year olds toy box though. Digging it back out and finding 'most' of the bits, I found it was almost the right scale and looked good next to Rocket.

When I posted up the first pics online someone suggested I should add some tech/relics. So I had a look around in the old terrain boxes to see what would fit.
At the same time I found some foam hills / rocks which filled the board up a bit. These as well as the board will be sprayed to match the GF9 hills.

The tech I found was a Stargate that has been around for several years. I don't even remember where I got it from now. With some cool card making plastic from my wife's hobby box, it got turned into a full on portal. Nice line of sight blocker as well as Deadpool found out.

Once the weather is a little nicer I can get the texture on the board and the sprays on everything.
Until then there are more boards to plan. The next will be an Avengers themed downtown board of HUGE buildings. Mrs Badger is actually building one of them as I type.
Hopefully pictures of that one up in the next week.

So, what do you think of the GotG set up?
Anythng need adding or removing?

What sort of boards are you planning for Marvel?

Marvel Universe Mini Game - Scenery and Throwing

Hi True Believers!
Some more rules new for you today. Something a lot of people have been asking about is the scenery and being able to throw it so I will try and go over the rules here as best as I can.

To start off with, all models and scenery have a Size. The models size is listed on their stat card and scenery has a chart in the rulebook.
As an example a bench would be Size 1, a truck Size 3 and huge building Size 8.
Models have the Endurance Bar to track damage. Scenery has Structure Points.
You choose the Structure Points for each item depending on the size of the scenery you own. The same Structure Points as Size makes things easy but you can alter it if you want to.

Scenery is damaged just like a normal model. It counts as having Defense 12 and is Immune to Mental attacks. Anything Size 5 or higher cannot be damaged by someone at Strength 1.
Larger scenery can also ignore the first 1-2 points of damage each time.
Once you can taken all the Structure Points of an item of scenery, it is destroyed and removed. Replace it with rubble if you like.
Anyone on top of a building or such that is destroyed will fall and take damage.

Right, onto the fun part. Throwing!
Any item on the board can be thrown. Terrain, enemies and friendlies.
A Throw is a 2 Power Extraordinary (blue) attack.
You can throw anything / anyone whose Size is equal to or under your Strength.

To throw an enemy you first need to roll to Grab them. If that works you then target another model or scenery piece and roll to hit that. Your range is double your Strength.
Any fails stop the attack there and then.
To throw a friendly or some scenery you Grab them automatically. Then again target something else and roll to hit that. Scenery is destroyed if it hits its target. A model is not and can be fine if not thrown at an enemy.

Damaged caused by a thrown item is the same as it Size.
If a model it thrown, it also receives damage equal to the throwers Strength -1.

Thrown scenery items gain the Overwhelm rule. They can pass through and hurt any smaller items or models in the path of the throw. But, if it hits something the same size or bigger, or several items that add up to its size, it's destroyed before it reaches the target.

So Hulk throws a Size 3 container at Rocket. It can go through Drax and cause 3 Damage to him and gain 2 Damage from him unless he passes an Agility roll.
It then continues to hit Rocket. Once it hits him it causes 3 Damage and is then destroyed.

And the best thing about all of this throwing?
A Colossus and Wolverine FASTBALL SPECIAL!!!!!!!

Arkham Asylum Complex 2.0

After trying out the Arkham Asylum kit on a road board the other day, I wondered if it would work on my angled board.
I prefer roads at an angle as it draws away from games played straight across the board and people don't always stick to the roads as it isn't always the most direct route.

From suggestions I have added some more scatter terrain to try and make it a bit more playable.
The Iceberg and Vale billboards may have to go thought as they don't really fit the look.

What do you think?
Do you prefer this set up or the last one? Or even the original with courtyard?

New Arkham Asylum Layout Idea

An idea came to me the other day to split up the Arkham Asylum kit from Knight Models and try to make it into a more playable board.

While the original layout looks great it does leave a big open space in the middle of the board and you can't really use the edges.
I grabbed one of my road boards and a selection of the other MDF bits from KM and started to play.

This is what I came up with!
I think it needs a little more scatter terrain for cover and Ping! rolls but it seems to be a fairly playable and balanced board.

What do you think? Would you play on in?
What would you do differently?

Arkham Asylum + New KM Website

It's been a HUGE week for news from Knight Models and it doesn't look like its stopping any time soon.

So far we have had -
- The Sons of Batman demo team program
- Marvel Game rumours
- New Brand, Knight Models Legends
- Resin Arkham Knight Batmobile
- Alternate painting contest

Now, KM have announced a brand new website including additional player tools, and the first item available from the KM Legends line, the awesome MDF Arkham Asylum.

Here's the official post -
"Due to the questions, guesses and predictions from the community following the reveal of Knight Models Legends this week, we would like to explain a little more about our new brand and what the future will hold for it.

Knight Models Legends was created with the idea of bringing the magic of comic book universes to our original product range. Iconic Buildings, detailed vehicles and even alternate miniature lines will all become reality with this new brand. We will be using different materials such as resin for many future releases as we would like KM Legends to be known for its superior quality.

The entire Knight Models Legends range will only be available in our online store, so we thought this would be a great time to combine it with the release of an entire new website design. One of the first new products you will find on there after launch will be our already famous Arkham Asylum.
We hope you are as excited by this new project as we are and we promise that this will be a VERY special new year at Knight Models. All of this is thanks to you, the fans!"

What else are you hoping to see from KM Legends?

Working on Modern Game Boards

Hi all!
I made a mistake. A BIG mistake. In my excitement of building Arkham, I used the back of my city board and didn't realize until it was too late.

This did give me the perfect excuse to work on some new boards though.
Overall I'm planning 5 different boards to use with the Batman game, some with interchangeable scenery, some fixed.

I dug out and old file I had from Fat Dragon Games and got to work.

The first one needed some roads as it's going to be a city block. I wanted to keep and angles there to break up the usual cross board fire and charge lanes and force some interesting movement.
These buildings can be moved or replaced so it makes it a very flexible board that can be used for a lot of settings. Most buildings here are from Sarissa Precision but they could get replaced or stacked higher yet.

Next up, again using the Fat Dragon tile was an Industrial District.
I want for a single road this time going around one corners. I know that opens up cross board lanes but on this one they will be blocked with more scatter terrain.
The buildings are also interchangeable on this one so new bits can be added to swapped with the city block. The TTCombat Bank will probably head to the city while the Impudent Mortal bits need to stay on a higher board like this one.

Talking of swapping things around, there will be some new additions to these boards soon.
TTCombat have a new gothic warehouse and courthouse that would be a great fit. The Olympus building from Multiverse Gaming is also a good size and very well detailed. I hope we get to see some of the city buildings Knight Models had at a show a while back as well.
The industrial district will be getting some love from Wargame Model Mods. A Hydro plant with a moving generator and lights, a tech building with lights and some silos to go with the chem plant.

Board #3 will be a dockside board.
My friend Jack sent me a printable board (below) that fits the setting really well and it will be filled with Wolsung warehouses and walkways along with a big crane from Fenris Games and a water section for the Bat-Boat!
A couple of the above buildings might also fit as well as a Lincoln building from TTComabt and a great Warehouse from Multiverse Gaming (neither pictured)

Board 4 is something you have seen a lot of on here already. Arkham Asylum with a base created 'just' for that set.
Work continues on this and it should hopefully be finished soon.

Finally is board 5. The Batcave!
The picture below belongs to Ian Alcock but it's a good representation of the sort of thing I'm going for though.
There are things in the works for this one but I don't know how far off it will be at the moment.

What boards are you working on at the moment?
Do you think this will be enough for any setting I might need?
If not, what would you add / remove?

Until next time.....
