Batman Scenery Review - Construction Set and Dumpsters

Hi all!
I think it's about time that I catch up with some of my Knight Models reviews.
Over the next few weeks I will be look at 3-4 months worth of Batman and Marvel releases. Some on here and some over on the Wayland Games Blog.

I'm going to start off today with a bit of MDF scenery. The Construction Set and Dumpsters for the Batman Minis Game.

Both of these sets come packed in clear bags with a Batman topper. These bags mean you can see exactly what you are getting before you even leave the store or open it.
They also each include some very handy building instructions. Something a few of the MDF kits out there at the moment are missing.

The Dumpsters come as a set of two on identical sheets while the Construction Set is split between two sheets. These sheets include two skips (one Wayne, one Queen), a Wayne pallet, and a pair of barriers.
The Construction Set came off of the sheet really easily while the Dumpsters needed to have a craft knife run around the back of the parts lightly to remove them. Not too bad as it's something you often expect to do while building this sort of scenery.

Time to glue!

These Dumpsters were very easy to build with the instruction sheet handy. Each section is a couple of layers thick to add raised detail and the fronts have Gotham City cut into them to add a little extra of a 'Batman' feel to your board.
The only thing to watch out with this is the pin that runs through the back of the lids. You will need to run a file over the mould lines to get a good fit. When you do though, it lets you open or position the lids however you like. Another nice little touch.

The pair of Skips that come on the Construction Set were an easy build. You make the main structure and then add the details on top. This makes them very sturdy and strong.
While both are the same design, they have different logos on. One for Wayne Enterprises and one for Queen Industries. Batman's and the Green Arrow's own companies that are involved in several industries in the DC world.

The other items in the Construction Set are the two barriers and the Pallet. The barriers just need the feet gluing on so are beyond simple. They are handy to place around the board though.
The Pallet took a little more work as each strip attaches to roughly three others. Little bits of glue and a bit of patience is needed for this one but it looks fantastic when finished with a Wayne Enterprises logo displayed across the top.

So, how do they scale against the miniatures?

The answer? Really well! These bits of scenery are ideal for blocking paths, adding cover to duck behind and increasing your chances of a 'Ping' roll when being shot at.
The logos also also help make your board feel and look like an actual DC setting.

To buy these kits you are looking at around £4.80 for the Dumpsters and £7.99 for the Construction Set. Prices from Wayland Games.
While they aren't the cheapest scatter terrain on the market, for the quality I think they are a fair price.

Overall I would give them-

Dumpsters - 7/10 Badger Points

Construction Set - 8/10 Badger Points

What do you think of them?
Good additions to a board or not?

More scenery coming soon.

Knight Models Show Off Gotham at Barcelona Ficomic

Knight Models were at Barcelona Ficomic last weekend with an AMAZING display.
They have built large sections of Gotham City including some landmarks.

This just looks fantastic. I don't know if any of this will be entering the scenery range yet, but I'm trying to find out and will let you all know as soon as I do.

Nightwing and the Riddler fight it out it out on KM HQ.

I hope the GCPD station is produced. Would love a building like that on my board.
On the left you can also see a 'Hat' shop. A sign of things to come?

The Queen Industries tower is a mirrored wonder. Oliver knows how to spend his money.

The top of Wayne Enterprises. This would make an awesome centrepiece on anyboard.

Another view of the full city. If any make it to sale, I expect it will be the smaller ones shown here.

Bats walks out of Wayne Tower.
Isn't that going to give it away a little?

What do you think of Gotham City then?
Daunting or Inspiring?

Batman Scenery Review - GCPD SWAT Van and Gotham Phone Booths

With the Batman Game growing in popularity since the Rulebook release, a lot of people are asking online about building tables.
With that in mind, I thought it was about time I put together some reviews on the Gotham MDF Scenery now available from Knight Models.

First up are the GCPD SWAT Van and Gotham Phone Booths.

Both of these kits come in laser cut MDF sheets. These are packed in clear bags with a Batman logo topper.
They also both include instruction sheets so you know where all the bits go.

Each set consists of two sheets of MDF. The Phone Booths are one per sheet and also include a sheet of clear acrylic each but the SWAT van is much bigger so covers two sheets on its own.
When removing the pieces, each has small tabs holding it in so its worth running around the edge with a craft knife first.
Watch out for very thin sections on the front edge of the van sides and long parts of the Gotham Telephone parts. If you are a little heavy handed they could easily break.

Once all the parts are removed, its time for some building! PVA glue is the best for these.

Both of these kits are fairly simple builds. They will take a little time thought as you will want to wait for the PVA glue to hold before moving onto the next part.
There are a couple of bits to watch out for.
On the van you will need to clip off the bottom corner of each door as it sticks into the wheel arch and the door then won't close fully.
For the Phone Booths, build the bottom and the sides first. Once dry, file down the pins on top as they are a tight fit. It would also be a good idea to paint it first before putting the glass in and gluing the top section on.

Once finished these both look great. The etched detail on the side of the van is fantastic and will make painting it a lot easier.
Above is a scale shot next to Origins Batman and Killer Croc. Neither piece is small!

On Wayland Games the Phone Booths cost £5.06 for the two and the SWAT van is £8.62.
With the size and detail I think they are more than reasonable prices.

Time for some scores.

SWAT Van - 9/10 Badger Points

Phone Booths - 7/10 Badger Points

Will you be picking up either of these kits?

Marvel and Batman March Releases

Knight Models posted up their new Marvel and Batman releases yesterday and WOW!
The March releases are very impressive.

First up is Norman Osborne a.k.a the Green Goblin. While the Marvel models don't have rules (yet) this is still a fantastic model. Captures the character perfectly.

For Batman, the releases are just as nice.
Penguin from the Gotham TV show looks just like the actor and gives the Penguin crew a new Leader or he can be used as a Sidekick for an Organised Crime crew.
Penguin's rules are HERE.

Talking of Organised Crime, Commissioner Loeb and the GCPD are coming as well.
Loeb can lead a Law force or be a sidekick for Organised Crime. Lieutenant Branden is also a Sidekick for Organised Crime, but he can also be a Sidekick for Law, Two Face and Black Mask.
Both of them are Corrupt meaning they can take up to 3 Law Henchmen in any crew they join, including SWAT as they also both have Elite Boss (SWAT).
The GCPD are filled out with a SWAT member with battering ram and a Detective.
The rules for all four can be found HERE.

The next two sets are some well needed Henchmen.
Two Face gets a two pack. One with a revolver and one with a shield and petrol bomb. Together they only come in at 33 Rep so easy to add to your crew.
Their rules are HERE.

The final model set is the stunning Blackgate Prisoners 2. These 4 chaps can be taken by ANY Villain crew. Coming in at just under 100 Rep, they can boost a crew where it needs help. The weapons and rules are great to. An electric baton, automatic gun, axe and bodyguard with brass knuckles means they have a man for almost any situation.
Rule for them are HERE.

As well as pretty models, KM carry on with their Gotham Scenography MDF range.
This month is a pair of very nice billboards featuring Penguin's Iceberg Lounge and Vicki Vale's chat show. They will make great rooftop cover for the Dark Knight.

What do you think of this months new goodies?
Will you be picking any of them up?

Gotham City Campaign Map for Batman

After a discussion in the Arkham City Limits Facebook Group, I thought it would be a good idea to set up a campaign map for the Batman Minis game from Knight Models. (Thanks to Kieron, David and Jack)

The map below has Gotham City split into several areas with most of the important places marked.
The idea is to have each Crew and Free Agent start in a different area. New releases will be added as and when they come out.

Still working on the rules ideas for the campagin but I thought this would be a good start. Feel free to use it however you like or suggest any changes.
