PAW 2012 - Con Report

As some readers may already know, we went to PAW 2012 this weekend. Running 2 Pulp City demonstration and participation tables.
Lets start off with a look at out lay out.

Along with the Sarissa Precision buildings (that almost every player took a card for becaused they loved them) and Fat Dragon roads there were lots of extra scenery bits from Fenris Games. (All links on this page)
To top it off, my lovely wife made some 'Comic Book Noises' to draw in the crowds. And boy did it work!
On the first day we had at least 1 table going all day and the other for most of it.
I had painted up 2 teams to start with (2nd pic behind cards) and Andy had painted up a lot of his Supremes as well (3rd pic on stand).
The players could then pic Heros or Villains and 2-3 models they liked the look of.
I know this may have been a touch more complicated than us picking the simple ones but the added effect of people being able to use what they like instead of just what they are given seemed to really fuel the enjoyment of the games.
Time for a few in game shots.

After 2 days worth of games, we had a LOT of happy players with a new love for Pulp. Some even started looking up the website on their phones as they were at the table!
A couple of players had seen Pulp City before am liked some models we didn't have painted up.
But WIP in a bag under the table was about 70% of the entire range. So if they really wanted to use a certain Supreme, we let them.
He is the card layout for the some we had and even an example of the Pulp Monster kit!

At the end of the weekend I think our table was a MASSIVE success. All players enjoyed the games, especially the guys from the Brixham Berserkers who shout cheesy one liners with each attack, and so did we.

With 3 people running our games there were chances to go and take a look at all the other stalls and games that were there. And even try some of them out.

I did have a couple of favourites.
Frag 3D by Trelawneys Armies Gaming Society was a lot of fun. It was quick and simple but still enjoyable at the same time. A bit like laser tag with heavy weapons and nukes.

Next was my personal favourite of the show - Infinity, run by Wargaming Trader
A brutal and fast sci-fi skirmish game where you get to attack the enemy as soon as you can see them. In their own turn!
The table was lovely as well. Glow stick street lights and an LED text ball.

What about the stalls?
Apart from stocking lots of great things at even better prices, they were dangerous.
I ended up with another Cutlass crew, a second Malifaux crew, some Heroclix to make Pulp City Minions and a whole Infinity PanO army! Plus shiny new metal dice. Whoops!

So, that was my time at PAW 2012. Really enjoyed the whole weekend and already booked in again for next year. There would have been more pics and more detailed reports of the games but I just got carried away with it all and forgot to take more or write anything down. (Even forgot to eat on the first day)

On the Painting Table - Monsters and Crusaders

Seeing I am manically painting every hour I can at the moment, meaning there isn't very much of interest getting blogged on here, I though I would at least let readers know what I'm actually doing.

Two Pulp City teams for the PAW 2012 con in 2 weeks.
The villainous 'Monsters of Mayhem' and the heroic 'Caped Crusaders'
Pics from here on in are of the official Pulp City studio models (click for larger views) With a note on who they are and how I'm painting them.

'Monsters of Mayhem' Level 9 Villains
Supreme Zed - Hero from another dimension who was killed and resurrected as a zombie by Dr Tenebrous to be part of his evil supreme team. Now almost indestructible.
Painting- Going for the obvious 'Superman' on this one. But dead.

Loup Garou II - Permanently transformed werewolf created by Doc Zombie. Second form after the first was killed by Red Riding Hoodoo.
Painting - Seeing this model can also be a Hero, I am going for the classic X-Man 'Beast'

Sanguine - Head of a dark corporation by day, rooftop leaping vampire by night.
Painting - My own take on the character in black, red and purple

Mourn - Eastern dictator covered in the tortured souls of his victims after being locked away in a different  dimensions prison
Painting - Going for a dark purple and faded look.

Tritonius - Half human, half Ulthar alien that draws power from water.
Painting - the 'Hulk' with a water theme. Green skin, purple shorts (obviously) and added blue.

Kitty Cheshire - Disappearing cat-woman that appeared from the 'Otherside' of a silver mirror. The only thing left after Dr.Hatter's asylum burnt down.
Painting - X-Mens 'Nightcrawler'. Minus the clothes

'Caped Crusader' Level 9 Heros
Solar - An ancient tiara gave him flight, strength and powers of the sun. But also a dark side
Painting - The 'Sentry'. With the power of a thousand exploding suns! And his own dark side.

Perun - Slavic god of thunder
Painting - This choice almost made itself. Anyone heard of 'Thor'?

Trail - Doctor and extremely powerful psychic. Uses his own technique called 'Trailblaseing' to set hallucinations in place in an enemies mind.
Painting - Macfarlanes 'Spawn'. Sometimes known a Hellspawn. The cape made me think of him the first time I spotted this model.

Harrier - Young flying mutant. Created by and hunting down Sanguine after he killed her parents.
Painting - Being a flying youngster, my Marvel fascination led me straight to 'Rouge'

Skyline - Scientist that created gadgets to help him control gravity in small areas. Then found himself fighting street crime.
Painting - As a rooftop vigilante he doesn't want to be seen. Black and midnight blue it is then.

Jade Hawk - Wronged by the legal system she has taken it upon herself to put away the people that deserve it
Painting - Another rooftop crime fighter and her name gave me a mix of black and dark greens.

And that's why I have paint up to my elbows!

Hmmmm......... Its gone quiet................

(What sort of blog would this be without a funny cat pic eh? )

I know the blog has been a little quieter than usual over the last week or 2, but I though I would pop in quickly and let you all know why.
A small group of us are putting on a Pulp City participation game at the PAW 2012 convention in a couple of weeks. This means there has been a lot to do so everything will be ready.
Mainly it has been painting. Supremes, buildings, portaloos, fountains and more.
Then there is working out exactly what we want to use. Currently we have 4 teams to play about with. Blood Watch, the Coven and 2 of my own creations - the Monsters of Mayhem and the Caped Crusaders.
(more on those last 2 as the minis are finished)

At the same time we have been putting together a couple of battle reports to follow on from the last one - The Lesser of Two Evils.
These are going to become a continuous 'comic book' on the Tales of a Tabletop Skirmisher' blog.
This is where we would love a bit of input from yourselves.
The series needs a name. Any ideas?
How would you like to see the reports laid out? The same as the first or maybe looking more like an actual comic book?

Finally on the Pulp City side of things there have been some BIG projects. Shhhhh...... they are a secret

While all this is going on, Loudo (Andy) has started teaching me Malifaux. The Dreamer and Lord Chompy Bits are sooooo much fun. Hope to have more on that soon as well. Painting, reports etc.

So there we have it.
Any questions?

Pulp City is Invaded by Ninja Assassins! (updated)

The first of the Jade Cult Assassins has been posted up today on the Pulp City Facebook page. (Click pics to view larger)
A new type of Minion that can be taken with the other members of the Jade Cult, Heros including Crimson Oni and ,Im not certain on this last one, maybe Villains in general?
They come in pairs but the kits have a huge amount of options.
2 bodies, 4 heads and 4 weapon sets. Thats a whole lot of options.

A teaser image was posted a while back that shows a couple of the other parts.

I have also dug up the concept image that was on the PC fourm a while back. Not gratly detailed but I think the minis have captured the look, feel and movement perfectly.

I think these model look amazing. Very dynamic and wonderfuly detailed. Really looking forward to picking up a set or 2 for my Heros and Villains. Got some colour schemes in mind and I have even seen all the parts yet.
You will be able to take 1 card of them at a time, thats 2 minis, but when the Green Emporer is released he will be able to take alot more of them. A whole army of Ninjas? Yes please!

The Jade Cult Assassins are due out with the next wave of Pulp City Supremes and will be boxed with the Green Emporers daughter, the Green Serpent (shown below)
Over on the Pen and Lead Blog there is also a quick word from Morf, the head of Pulp City, on these models.

"… the batch of sculpts from James and I took them immediately to MaxMini for casting.
I got to say this is just one of my favorite batches: hyper dynamic (hey, it’s ninjas!) super sexy minis!

There are two ninja Supremes (male and female), multipart ninjas (2 body types, 8 weapons and arms, 4 heads – all very user friendly as they hold almost with no glue) and the Green Emperor who is just really menacing as he draws his sword.

But it’s not just villains – Heroes will be able to use ninjas as well, and all Hero players will be happy to see a whole new team building option that gives special bonuses if you build your team with the martial arts theme (yes, that means Chronin side by side with Chimp Chi)."

Sounds like the new models are going to give alot more options to all players. Really like the idea of a martial arts Hero team!

This is shaping up to be an amazing wave of releases for Pulp City.
With the above models there will also be Foxxy Blade, Crimson Oni, Doom Train, Night Fright, Tanuki and the Shadow Mask.

Is you want to find out more about these minis then head over to the PC Forum

 On a different topic,
If you are an email subscriber to this blog but this update hasnt arrived then please check out my last post >>HERE<<

Im off to work on some more city scenery.

New Pulp City Supreme Artwork - Yes its a Racoon!

Over the holiday weekend, Pulp City posted up the artwork for a new Supreme. (click to view larger)

His name? Tanuki
A Racoon member of the Jade Cult. A new sub-faction coming with the next wave of releases.
Master of magic powders and potions.
Probably a Villain (but I could be wrong)
Thats about all thats known for him so far though.

Buy hey, its an eastern themed Racoon super villain chemist with a mask. I dont need to know any more than that to know I like him!

Tanuki is going to be paired up in a box with Chronins arch nemesis. The Shadow Mask

Im really looking forward to this next wave of Supremes (The Pulp City name for Supers)
Hopefully out soon.

Until then head over and check out the Pulp City site and thier stunning range of minis.

Pulp City New Starter Sets - Tekkna Artwork

There has been a new Pulp City Supreme spotted today on their Facebook Page and the Pulp City Forum.
She is going to be in the new Starter Sets next year.

Tekkna

And according to Pulp Citizen she is very nice. Not a bad bone in her body. Hero Supreme maybe?

I really like her. And I have a feeling she will look very nice next to Vector with the circuits look.

What do you think?
