Nice mate.. I also just picked up some Dystopian Wars from their ebay store last week. Went Japanese for the time being as I like their models the most.
Though waiting on the Coalition of Canada and the Ottoman Empire releases. Those will be future purchases, and hopefully factions that I can use to get others into the game around here :)
So far land tanks are in pre-release status for Canada, but Ottomans are still a waiting game. Am hopeful they both get full naval starter packs at the very least.
Been a big DW player from day one, so I can say you're getting into a great game. Prepare to roll LOTS of dice (and hope for a lot of sixes!)
Haven't played against the French yet, but I do know that their Heat Lance rule is OBSCENE. Second the Ottoman Empire release wish, but I heard that Spartan Games have rethought what nations they will put out, so they probably won't get a full release.
Great game, I too have been playing since day one and we have a league going around here now in Liverpool.
Big Prussian player myself and have played the french a few times. I found them to be quite well armoured, and fairly mobile. I thought there guns where a bit lacking and the heatlance wasn't so scarey as it first appeared, use it against big ships!!! then its scarey.
The one rule that they have thought that is often over looked but saves there bacon more times then i care to mention; Retardant Armour, that one rule has caused me to swear so much (and I NEVER swear) but they are fun to play against.
Retardant Armour stops the first six you roll in an attack from expolding (a six counts as two success's and you roll the die again). It doesn't seem like much but the number of times i roll only one six............
It is an outstanding game, easy to get into, some nice complexities to keep it fun for the long term, plus a good chance to make some interesting terrain that you have probably never needed for any of your other games.

What does that armour do?
