The '2012 11+1 Challenge' from Pen and Lead

Over on the Pen and Lead Blog (link), Varagon has issued a challenge.
The 2012 11+1 painting challenge.
I couldn't say no!

The original post is HERE and the idea is to paint 1 mini a month plus an extra during the year.
It cant be a commission, to sell, traded, used for an exchange or anything similar. It has to be yours. By you for you. And has to be one of the models from your starting list.

What am I going to do?
Cheat! Well not exactly. I have started painting some models in this month so they will be included in my list. But each will only count as half a month seeing they all have the base colours down.
And to make it a bit harder because I cheated, I will also include a couple of extras. All will be Pulp City minis as I have LOTS that need painting.

The List
1. Supreme Zed + Sanguine/Draku
2. Skyline + Jade Hawk
3. Solar + Perun
4. Trail + Harrier
5. Tritonius + Kitty Cheshire
6. Mourn + Loup Garou
(that's the minis already started)

7. Seabolt
8. Hadron (Cap, Giant + Mini)
9. Nuclear Jones + Dr Mercury (Because Docs simple and doesn't count as a whole one to me)
10. Arquero + Avatar of the Jaguar (Again, my Avatar scheme is simple so doesn't count as a whole)

11. (Something special) Grimms! Hulking and Driller
+1. (Something even more specialer) PULP CITY MONSTER!!!!!!!!!!!!

Will they be in order? Probably not. But they will ALL be finished by Dec 31st 2012!

Think I can do it?

Relics Rulebook PDF now on Wargame Vault

(direct from the Tor Gaming blog)

We have been thinking about how to handle the Relics rulebook and force lists. With the addition of the Nuem list we have had to look at what we have and if we really want to continue down the route of a single book with full lists in.

We don’t plan on stopping at four factions by the way (I’m actually writing profiles for faction 5 right now, and making notes for faction 6 to be written up as profiles once faction 5 is done) so having them all in a single book seems wrong to me.

We have asked for feedback on some options on our forum and social media. Thanks for all the thoughts posted about this by all your guys out there, I truly do appreciate your input.
The option we look to be taking is this:
The rulebook will include:
  • Full game rules.
  • 28,000 words of world history and fiction. Bazinga!!
  • The profiles from the Canned Armies for the first four factions, plus a second commander. That is 6 profiles for the first four factions.
Then we will follow that up with a expansion book that will include:
  • More specific faction histories.
  • New fluff – Dan has just been given a lot of extra stuff to write. Mwhahahahahaha
  • The remainder of the factions profiles bringing each faction up to 13 profiles
Then for additional factions, we will releases books that contain all the profiles for two factions, plus all the background and fluff for both those factions. That is two factions in a single book.

In addition to that, we will be giving a cut down version away for free. This will include the profiles from the Starter Cans and will not include Magic, Morale, Command or Lingering Effects.

We won’t be able to put in artwork for each profile. Some people have said we should have artwork on each profile, and I couldn’t agree more with them except as we just don’t have it and can’t afford to have it all done right now. We are kind of doing that as we go along.

The free version and the main rules version books are now available through Wargame Vault as pdfs. We are looking at printed copies too for those that really must have a printed copy and for the shops to carry.
Get Relics on the Wargames Vault

There are several reasons for dealing through Wargame Vault with the PDFs:
  • By buying the rules via Wargames Vault, you will get free access to all new versions of that edition that we release. Therefore, if we need to make amendments to the text, you get a free copy of the amended pdf. Always be up to date.
  • I believe we are in a great time for digital media and would strongly recommend people get a tablet for storing and using pdf rulebooks on. You can carry hundreds of the pdfs with you and they are all instantly searchable for something that weighs less than a single hardback.
The free pdf we released previously is now no longer available for download. If you have it, you will find some of the profile points have changed.
You can download the free starter rules, or purchase the full rules for the princely sum of $10 (£6.32) from Wargame Vault now!

The Power of a Thousand Exploding Suns.....

Marvel fans out there will recognise The Sentry above.
He is the inspiration for my next WIP Pulp City Supreme, Solar.

Here is how he looks so far. I'm after some opinions though

I would love to know peoples thoughts for the next step. There's 4 options.
1- Stay as he is
2- Change belt, collar and mask to black (like top Sentry)
3- Stay blue and gain blue greaves and boots (bottom Sentry)
4- Go black with the boots and greaves.

Which would you pick?

First EVER attempt at freehand

The first time I spotted the Pulp City hero Trail I could only think of one character. Macfarlanes Spawn.

So I starter painting to see what I could do to turn Trail into my very own Hellspawn. Although this meant doing some freehand. Something I have never tried before.

Why haven't I tried it before you ask? Well, I'm 6'9" so have VERY large and not very steady hands.
But what the hell. I gave it a go any way.

What do you think so far?
All constructive criticism is welcome.

Above and below is the start of my Pulp City robots. Using Heroclix Sentinels.
Thats 80mm bases and a 30mm base for scale.

Aswell as those, there is a fair bit of painting going on.
See if you can spot any famous colour schemes

Ok, break over.
Back to the brushes.

There's Monsters in the Mail. Arrgggggh!

In the mail this morning was a very nice box of toys from Pulp Monsters. Producers of Pulp City.
Along with some more Supremes I have been after, there was something much bigger.
A Pulp City MONSTER kit!
This is going to be fun with the new monsters rules for PC that are out soon.
(click pics to view larger)
(the official pics from the Pulp City site)

After taking out all the individual parts I thought I would show you all whats in the kit.
First up is a pic of all the main parts. There are a few smaller bits but I forgot to take them out of the bag.
The kit has all the parts to make 4 different monsters. 2 beasts and 2 elder gods. But all the parts can be mixed and matched as you please.
The detail on these parts is amazing. Most of the body is covered with very fine scales that are all cast perfectly. There wasn't much flash and only a few tabs. And its HUGE!!!!!
I thought the online pics looked good but getting this model in my own hands just made me love it even more.

Here are the 4 basic set ups for the kit. With a 30mm base Captain Hadron and an 80mm base Giant Hadron for scale.

Giant Reptile / Dionsaur

Sea Creature

Lovecraftian Chtulu style God

Demonic Satan like Creature

My first is going to be built as the Reptile and the next one will be the Demon. But looking at all the other parts, I now want to buy another 2!

Shhhh, don't tell Mrs Badger.

On the Painting Table - Monsters and Crusaders

Seeing I am manically painting every hour I can at the moment, meaning there isn't very much of interest getting blogged on here, I though I would at least let readers know what I'm actually doing.

Two Pulp City teams for the PAW 2012 con in 2 weeks.
The villainous 'Monsters of Mayhem' and the heroic 'Caped Crusaders'
Pics from here on in are of the official Pulp City studio models (click for larger views) With a note on who they are and how I'm painting them.

'Monsters of Mayhem' Level 9 Villains
Supreme Zed - Hero from another dimension who was killed and resurrected as a zombie by Dr Tenebrous to be part of his evil supreme team. Now almost indestructible.
Painting- Going for the obvious 'Superman' on this one. But dead.

Loup Garou II - Permanently transformed werewolf created by Doc Zombie. Second form after the first was killed by Red Riding Hoodoo.
Painting - Seeing this model can also be a Hero, I am going for the classic X-Man 'Beast'

Sanguine - Head of a dark corporation by day, rooftop leaping vampire by night.
Painting - My own take on the character in black, red and purple

Mourn - Eastern dictator covered in the tortured souls of his victims after being locked away in a different  dimensions prison
Painting - Going for a dark purple and faded look.

Tritonius - Half human, half Ulthar alien that draws power from water.
Painting - the 'Hulk' with a water theme. Green skin, purple shorts (obviously) and added blue.

Kitty Cheshire - Disappearing cat-woman that appeared from the 'Otherside' of a silver mirror. The only thing left after Dr.Hatter's asylum burnt down.
Painting - X-Mens 'Nightcrawler'. Minus the clothes

'Caped Crusader' Level 9 Heros
Solar - An ancient tiara gave him flight, strength and powers of the sun. But also a dark side
Painting - The 'Sentry'. With the power of a thousand exploding suns! And his own dark side.

Perun - Slavic god of thunder
Painting - This choice almost made itself. Anyone heard of 'Thor'?

Trail - Doctor and extremely powerful psychic. Uses his own technique called 'Trailblaseing' to set hallucinations in place in an enemies mind.
Painting - Macfarlanes 'Spawn'. Sometimes known a Hellspawn. The cape made me think of him the first time I spotted this model.

Harrier - Young flying mutant. Created by and hunting down Sanguine after he killed her parents.
Painting - Being a flying youngster, my Marvel fascination led me straight to 'Rouge'

Skyline - Scientist that created gadgets to help him control gravity in small areas. Then found himself fighting street crime.
Painting - As a rooftop vigilante he doesn't want to be seen. Black and midnight blue it is then.

Jade Hawk - Wronged by the legal system she has taken it upon herself to put away the people that deserve it
Painting - Another rooftop crime fighter and her name gave me a mix of black and dark greens.

And that's why I have paint up to my elbows!
