The Bat and the Badger head for Wayland

If you use Wayland Games, you may have noticed that they have updated their website and added a new Blog Section.

They also have some sort of 'Badger' writing about the Batman Minis Game.

Keep an eye on the new blog for all sorts of goodies. The current plan is to have the official 'info' posts like how to build crews on the Wayland Blog and keep my own work like painting and board making here.

That may change in a couple of weeks, but who knows?

What would you like to see on both the Wayland Blog and this one?

Marvel and Batman March Releases

Knight Models posted up their new Marvel and Batman releases yesterday and WOW!
The March releases are very impressive.

First up is Norman Osborne a.k.a the Green Goblin. While the Marvel models don't have rules (yet) this is still a fantastic model. Captures the character perfectly.

For Batman, the releases are just as nice.
Penguin from the Gotham TV show looks just like the actor and gives the Penguin crew a new Leader or he can be used as a Sidekick for an Organised Crime crew.
Penguin's rules are HERE.

Talking of Organised Crime, Commissioner Loeb and the GCPD are coming as well.
Loeb can lead a Law force or be a sidekick for Organised Crime. Lieutenant Branden is also a Sidekick for Organised Crime, but he can also be a Sidekick for Law, Two Face and Black Mask.
Both of them are Corrupt meaning they can take up to 3 Law Henchmen in any crew they join, including SWAT as they also both have Elite Boss (SWAT).
The GCPD are filled out with a SWAT member with battering ram and a Detective.
The rules for all four can be found HERE.

The next two sets are some well needed Henchmen.
Two Face gets a two pack. One with a revolver and one with a shield and petrol bomb. Together they only come in at 33 Rep so easy to add to your crew.
Their rules are HERE.

The final model set is the stunning Blackgate Prisoners 2. These 4 chaps can be taken by ANY Villain crew. Coming in at just under 100 Rep, they can boost a crew where it needs help. The weapons and rules are great to. An electric baton, automatic gun, axe and bodyguard with brass knuckles means they have a man for almost any situation.
Rule for them are HERE.

As well as pretty models, KM carry on with their Gotham Scenography MDF range.
This month is a pair of very nice billboards featuring Penguin's Iceberg Lounge and Vicki Vale's chat show. They will make great rooftop cover for the Dark Knight.

What do you think of this months new goodies?
Will you be picking any of them up?

Geeky Birthday Haul. Pure Awesomeness!!!!!

While the Arrow's villains have always "FAILED THIS CITY", my family have far from failed this geek!
Yesterday I turned 20-11 (31) and you would think people knew me quite well with the geeky haul I was given. Massive thanks to all of them.
About are four 4' canvases. These are huge and look stunning.

My Funko Pop collection got a nice boost with Adam West in his Batmobile, Bruce Wayne and the mighty Locutus of Borg!
On top of that the geek fest continued with a scale Bat-Signal, which is the perfect size for the batman game and actually lights up, some Mario Pez, old school Back to the Future on Blu-ray and some very nice WN S7 brushes. A hint I should paint more maybe?

There was still more artwork to come. A 2' Justice League canvas and a lovely commissioned piece of Deadpool and Harley by local artist Marc Ducrow. A colour copy is coming soon as well.

Some of my family and friends gave me some cash to spend on anything I liked. They knew it would be toys!
The Blackagates are on the way to get painted as additional Two Face crew members and Speedy is getting a head swap from Arrow to become a CW Arsenal.

The girls also got some help in the form of Classic Harley and Catwoman to join my Ivy crew and form the Gotham City Sirens.
The last bit was spent on some dark green Army Painter, I was given a Nerf bow and arrow at christmas and thought it would look great in dark green instead of the white and purple it is at the moment.

But why would I want a green bow?
THIS IS WHY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(Ignore the kids beanbags and toys)
My awesome wife had an Arrow costume made to fit me! Cant wait to get out to the comicons and Batman game demos now!

I would like to say a HUGE THANK YOU to everyone for my awesome gifts.

Until next time,

DC / Marvel 35mm Review - Swamp Thing and Loki

Today I'm going to be looking at two recent releases from Knight Models. One for Batman and one for Marvel. I know it's an odd combination, but they came out at the same time.

Swamp Thing and Loki!

Both of these models come in clear blisters. Swamp Thing in a large one and Loki in a small.
Both have the parts held in with foam and have a backing card showing a well painted finished model.

Inside these blisters are two 35mm scale, highly detailed, multi-part metal models.
Loki also has a 30mm base and Swamp thing has a 40mm base and stat card.
I know Loki isn't playable at the moment, but Knight Models ARE working on a set of rules for the Marvel models in their own game.

Swamp Thing on the other hand is playable right now. In two different crews as well. Ivy as a Sidekick or Batman as a Free Agent. He also has Elite Boss: Plants so can lead an Ivy crew on his own if you wanted to use just him and some killer Plants.
Swampy comes in at a huge 150 Rep but his stats and Traits reflect that cost.
Willpower 8, Strength 2+ Attack 4 and Endurance 11 are impressive to start with with Scientific making his Special stat 4 instead of the usual 3. An Altered Limb with Blood, Stun and Reach plus some Short Range Spikes add some nice weapons.
His Basic Traits of Large and Tough Skin make him hard to take down but he really comes into his own when you look at his Special Traits.
Roots pin models near him, Natural Immunities to Blind, Poison and Steal help him stay at his best. Regeneration lets you remove Blood Damage. And Green Travel gives a once per game 40cm move.
There are a couple of negatives as well though. Swamp Thing is vunerable to Fire and can't enter Sewers.

Swampy is a big heavy chunk of a model in only 4 parts. Torso, Legs and Arms.
Loki is a much smaller and slimmer figure in 6 parts. Body, Cape, Staff, Head and Horns.

Again, I was so excited to receive these models and get building, I forgot my normal mould lines picture. It wouldn't have shown much though as both of these models were really clean and didn't take a lot to prepare for building.

Swamp Thing was a simple build. The parts went together fairly well but there are gaps around the arms and waist that will need filling before he can be painted.
The main part of the model is stunning. He looks really impressive. But, his is standing on a huge great log that is stuck to his feet. I'm not keen on that at all so may remove it.

Loki was a simple but fiddly build. With such a small and thin parts, they were a bit to a struggle to hold in my massive hands. They did go together really well though and will hardly need any work to be ready for paint.
Again, this model looks stunning apart from one part. His empty hand looks like he has stubby fingers and isn't half as nice and clean a sculpt as the rest of the model.

Both have again been mounted on city base toppers from Fenris Games to match the rest of my collection.

He does look nice. I get the idea of the log and it might 'grow' on me but he does appear to be surfing on it.
As Swampy is the first Sidekick available for a Poison Ivy crew, I have put him in a test list.

Leader - Poison Ivy (Comic) - 83 Rep - $0
Sidekick - Swamp Thing - 150 Rep - $0
Henchman - Spore Plant - 20 Rep - $150
Henchman - Spore Plant - 20 Rep - $150
Henchman - Creeper Plant - 16 Rep - $0
Henchman - Plant - 10 Rep - $0

This comes to 299 Rep and $300. This 'leaves' you with $700 for other Plant upgrades.
This crew is really going to struggle with Objectives as they Plants can't take them and will rely on decent placement of the Plants. Going to be fun to try though.

On Wayland Games, Swamp Thing is £16.40. For a model that size and that detailed as well as that good in the game, I'm not going to complain about the price at all.

Loki looks like pure trickery and evil to me. Love it!
In this picture you can see what I was saying about the hand though. It doesn't look right with the rest of the model.

No crew list for Loki until the Marvel rules that Knight Models are working on arrive but I bet he will be more than a match for his brother and his so-called Avengers.
I'm soooooo excited about Marvel being playable!!!!!!!!!

Loki's price on Wayland Games is £11.60. Not bad for someone who can take on the Avengers AND the throne of Asgard.
It may seem a little much for a single model but characters in other popular games are about the same. Plus it's a larger scale, high detail, licensed product.

I do like 90% of both of these model and the little bits I don't can be overlooked with the overall coolness factor of both of them.
Scores will be -

Swamp Thing - 8/10 Badger Points

Loki - 8/10 Badger Points

What do you think of these two?

Batman Model Review - Arkham Titan Joker

I think it's about time for some more reviews on here. Not done any for a while.
What better to start it off again with than this BEAST?

The new Titan Joker from the Arkham console games.

Titan Joker comes in a large blister and is the usual standard from Knight Models.
The parts are held in tightly with foam and the other side has a backing card showing a well painted version of the finished model.

Inside you will find a multi-part, 35mm scale, high detailed, metal model. It also contains a 40mm plastic lipped base and a fold out stat card.

His rules are impressive!
Titan Joker comes in at 130 Rep, $0 and is a Leader for a Joker crew.
His stats are crazy. Willpower 8, Strength 2+, Attack 5 and Endurance 10 mean he can go storming around the board making things go "squish" and not have to worry about much else.
Although he has no weapons, the Claws Trait make his unarmed Attacks get an extra Blood damage on top of the usual Stun.
Large,Luck and Sturdy give him some great defencive abilities while Tireless and Trickster make his Action Counters very flexible.
Top all that off with the Power Strike special attack that knocks opponents down and Titan Joker is a crew all on his own.

The model comes in 8 parts. Body front and back, head, spine spikes, legs and arms.
The fact the torso is hollow makes the model much lighter at the top so not as prone to falling over.

As you can see here, the mould lines are minimal. A little running around the edges but nothing that can't be fixed with a file and a couple of minutes.

On to the build.....

Titan Joker was a fairly easy build. The parts all fitted together really well.
It may look like there are gaps where they join but I think that's more the new glue I was using that makes them look a lot darker than they really are.
The only place they will need more than a quick run over with liquid green stuff is the top of the shoulder blades. A small gap there but not too bad for a metal multi-part model of this size. I have seen a lot worse.
I have mounted him on a base topper from Fenis Games to match the rest of my crew.

Until you put this model next to some others it's hard to really judge the pure HUGE size of it. The tiny Batman in the middle there is 35mm scale so bigger than most other human sized models on the market. Killer Croc was the largest in the Batman range up until now, but even he looks small next to Joker. Hulk is a bit bulkier, but still around the same size.

This guy just looks impressive no matter what.I think he's a must for anyone with a Joker crew.
Talking about crews, I have put together a little list to test him out with.

Leader - Titan Joker - 130 Rep - $0
Sidekick - Arkham Harley - 61 Rep - $0
Henchman - Sniggering - 25 Rep - $600
Henchman - Shield Clown - 16 Rep - $0
Henchman - August - 25 Rep - $0
Henchmen - Triston - 26 Rep - $300
Henchman - Tube Clown - 14 Rep - $0

This gives you a total crew of 297 Rep and $900. Not much room for extra equipment but it's a nice mix of ranged, combat and defence that should be able to take on all enemies.

Now is the big one, Price!
This huge Joker can be found on Wayland Games for £36. It may seem a bit much but this massive model is a great centrepiece for your crew or collection and is half a crew on his own. Models this size in other popular games are going to cost you a lot more.
Would I complain if he was £30 instead? Of course not! But, I can live with £36.

Overall, I love this Joker, Hes a beast in game and looks absolutely stunning.
He does cost a little more than I expected and needs a little extra work but taking everything into account I'm going to give him..........

9/10 Badger Points!

What do you think of him?
Will he be joining your collection?

It's here!500K hits!
That means that 5 of you will be getting these stunning minis from Knight Models.

But first of all I want to say a massive than you again to everyone that has read, shared, commented, supported and more over these last 500K hits.
If it wasn't for all of you, I wouldn't still be doing this. You make it a pleasure to write.
There's so much more I would like to say to all of you, but for once I don't know what to write!
It truly is humbling to think that so many people are interested in what I have to say.

So, who gets the goodies?

I went to the old Random Number Generator and keep drawing numbers until I had a winner for each model. This did take a few attempts because it kept picking people that wanted Arrow and Swamp Thing after those had already gone.

The winners are........................

Arrow - Alex Hood
Swamp Thing - redben
Red Hood - Todd Henry
Deathstroke - Mugu
Loki - Stuart Thomas

Congrats to all of you!
Please contact me within 7 days to claim your prize by emailing me HERE.
Any that aren't claimed by then will be drawn again.

To those that didn't win, keep an eye out as there will be more giveaways in the future.

Can this blog make it past another 500K hits? I hope so!
There is so much coming up over the next few months. Some bits I can't talk about yet *wink* but I will be sharing them all with you as soon as I can as well as tons of other articles I have planned.

What would you like to see?
Let me know in the comments below.

Alfred Pennyworth a.k.a Penny One - Rules

With Knight Models now shipping out the Batman Rulebook pre-orders, people are starting to get their hands on the fantastic Alfred Pennyworth.
Not only  does the model look great, the rules card has now been posted on the Arkham City Limits Facebook group.

Alfred, as you would expect, only works for a Batman crew. He's 30 Rep and $0 to hire.
Interestingly, Alfred is a Henchmen and not a Sidekick or Free Agent. This means he can be given equipment in the game and doesn't take up any of the limited Sidekick or Free Agent slots.
His stats are about average for a basic Henchmen and he isn't carrying any weapons but can still make Unarmed Attacks for Stun Damage. This may not sound too great but his Traits are what make him useful.
Informer and Veteran means he gives an extra 'Pass' activation per turn and can move 2 of his 5 Action Counters at the start of his activation.
Alfred's Special Traits are what make him extra special.
Business Agent adds $300 to the crews funding total. This means you can take Gordon and all the SWAT in a Batman crew without going over your $$$ limit.
Medic (2SC) lets Alfred remove 1 Blood or 2 Stun Damage from a model in base to base if he is not in base to base with an enemy.
With a small number of characters in a Batman crew, a way to heal Blood damage and extra Stuns is fantastic!

The Alfred Pennyworth model isn't available for retail sale and was only available with rulebook pre-orders. He will be available in other ways in the future though. Tournaments, Conventions, Offers and such so keep an eye out for him.

What do you think of Penny One?
Will be he joining a Batman crew for you?

Batman Rulebook Reveals - Corrupt Cops, Riddler and Red Hood

Over in the Arkham City Limits Facebook Group a copy of the new Batman Rulebook has appeared!
There has been some nice little hidden extras in there as well.

First up, the stat card for the Red Hood Joker exclusive model. The same rules as Arkham City Joker but a nice alternate card.

Next up is a new Trait, Corrupt. Looks like we will be getting some corrupt GCPD cops soon!
Could it be Com Loeb?

The final one for now (until more are found) is the one I'm the most excited about. The equipment list for a RIDDLER CREW! Yay! Can't wait to see what they do with this one.

Don't forget, we have a  big Knight Models giveaway going on at the moment. 5 blisters for 5 winners at 500K hits. You can find it >HERE<.

If I don't reply to any comments straight away, it's because I'm waiting by the door for my books to arrive!
