Marvel Universe Game - The X-Men

Hi True Believers!
We have had a look at the Avengers and Guardians starters over the last couple of weeks here, but today is the turn of my favourite. The X-Men!
As said before, all of these starters come with a mini rulebook and scenario included.

First up is the Leader of the team. Scott Summers a.k.a Cyclops.
Cyclops is a Level 7 Mutant Hero.
Using his eye beams can take take down targets at range, cause explosions and ever Pierce through one target and hit the next.
As a Leader he is able to boost the Power of his team and even their speed with a call to action as well as getting someone to act alongside him.

Next is James (Logan) Howlett. The Wolverine.
Wolverine is a Level 8 Mutant Hero and Superhuman Hero.
Being the Best There Is and others hearing his distinct SNIKT, he's deadly in close combat. If he's not close enough, being thrown in a Fastball Special should help.
He's also very fast and Agile as well as having his Adamantium Skeleton which can reduce damage.

The teams muscle is Piotr Rasputin a.k.a Colossus.
A Level 7 Mutant Hero.
Colossus is the power behind the Fastball Special and is a bulldozer in close combat with his metal punches as well as being the teams Tank who can be used as a Bodyguard who is resistant to several types of damage.

The final team member is Anna Marie. Known to others as Rogue.
She's a Level 8 Mutant Hero.
Able to fly and use her increased physical ability to do a lot of damage, her real strength is her ability to Drain Power from others. She could increase her own Power, gain Immunity to attacks, the chance to teleport or even to Regenerate damage.

What do you think of the X-Men starting line up?
Will they be your team of choice?

And who do you want to see join them next?

Until next time ....... Excelsior!

  1. Nice review. I know deadpool will be available to use with X-Men but I suppose Storm, Nightcrawler, or Banshee would be among my preferences given the current line up. Would love a first class team eventually as well.

  2. My next choices would be Nightcralwer and Gambit then maybe Storm and Beast.

  3. I agree on wanting to see Gambit sooner rather then later but feel like they should finish the OG X-men of Beast, Iceman, and Jean Grey before moving on just for completeness sack.

I have been brainstorming different teams and uses of character I was curious....Rogue's power drain doesn't specify enemy so theoretically can she attack one of your own characters to gain their ability at the beginning of the game? Hit either Wolverine or Deadpool to pick what she'd like on the first activation of the game and then they can start regenerating the list health right way....

    1. From the main book wording I have seen, yes that would be possible.
I'm looking more at a 90's cartoon team.

    2. It may be posible, but also it will be painful as the draining attack deals a nice amount of damage

    4. Yeah, it's not something you want to do without thought

  4. As interested as I am in the heroes I do hope we see some villains released soon. Red Skull, Hydra, Brotherhood, there are so many to choose from. It seems silly that the heroes fight each other so often in the comics. But, at least on the table top I can make up my own dialogue for the characters!

    1. I doubt it will be long until villains appear. But I can see why they chose these 3 teams first with recent movies and popularity.
      Looking forward to the Brotherhood.
As there is already a Mac Gargan Venom and I love the Sentry, I want to see some Dark Avengers as well.

    1. The rule are coming in the starter sets.
Character cards are on the Knight Models site under Product Data Sheet and a lot of the rules have been covered on here over the last couple of weeks.

    2. Thanks! I was just hoping there would be a downloadable document we could review.

    3. Not sure if there will a downloadable one, but with a book in every starter there should be loads around by the end of next week.

  6. "use her increased physical ability to do a lot of damage" i may be wrong, but rogue seems to be one of the characters with lower damage output in the starters.

  7. Noticeable Colosus's phisical defense 20

  8. Nightcrawler and Jean Grey, Nightcrawler for the infiltrator missing from this group and Jean Grey for the mental defense/attacks. (I'd prefer the Phoenix costume to the 90s one)

Gambit is a good shout but I'd see him as a replacement to Cyclops just without the command buffs.

Storm and Iceman could fill the crowd control role. Out of the two I'd get Iceman (No idea how I'd paint him though... :))

    2. Start with a aqua base. Layer on a cream color, hit it with a light blue wash and then drybrush layers of white until satisfied. Highlight with a brighter shade of white.

    3. I expect we will see most of them soon.
      Nice ice painting tips.
